    Even 30 000 hours is 8 hours a day for 10 years , no ?

Who's not gonna upgrade your tv once per decade ?

I think you are mistaken. Plasma is indeed an energy hog, but the technology produces some of the best off-axis viewing and best color levels... all at a much nicer price tag. If I was wrong about this, the guys at highdefforum wouldn't still be praising the plasma.

A recent discussion between the technologies is here

EDIT: There is one other thing to think about that I forgot - the room the TV is in. Room lighting makes a huge difference. If memory serves,
LCD is best for brightly lit rooms or harsh lighting. They have less glare
Plasma is best for softer lighting and darker rooms. They have a more polished surface.

Plasma is the best display for fast moving sports like hockey

Fans of football , baseball or basketball might not notice the difference

Do some research on Consumer Reports, they test every aspect of televisions. When i bought my Sony XRB in '08 it was rated at the top.
