Thanks for the input. I typically use Duracell Procell and only use the LED Maglites - love them.

    Thanks again!

Not sure how I missed this but has anybody used this handheld Midland Weather Radio? For $15 and free Prime shipping, I'll likely just order it.

Might also talk work into getting one so I can test it for my own use.

Only issue I see so far is it doesn't have S.A.M.E. technology so you would receive alerts anywhere within the antenna's reach.

    What say you?

Most modern vehicles have mesh inside the filler neck to prevent siphoning...i know out trucks do. If it was an all out shit hit the fan event you could just poke a hole in the bottom of the tank and catch the gas in a bucket or can..[/QUOTE]

yes, yes it is. I work for the National Weather Service as a radio tech and they are all very well protected from zombies and even mild EMP. Most sites have backup generator power with substantial fuel reserves as well. They are also linked to the emergency broadcast system and will give you the dope on a non weather emergency (zombies) as well. Get a radio with a decent antenna and you can pick up a signal in all but the most remote reaches of the country.

I was looking at these originally.

I'm also interested in getting a CB, too.

Too many toys, too little money. :(

Well, the radio is far less important than the antenna. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/8499
    [IMG]

Personally, I like the ICOM handhelds, but no matter the budget a good antenna will get you some serious range. (50 miles is not uncommon, vs 5miles with a cheap gmrs)

I have a couple of the GRS radios, but for secure communications between vehicles or people is the TriSquare XRS radios. They use a frequency hopping capability, and talk for about a mile. Good for use between vehicles or what ever, and are about the same cost as the GRS, but without a bunch of people on your frequency.

Can't get the link to post, go to Amazon and type in Trisquare XRS. I have the 300 series. Hands free mikes, rechargeable batteries, and they worked great on our last vacation trip to Legoland.

lol you guys are nuts. I've had mine for two weeks and I've already done this naturally.

Glove box I have a few different screwdrivers, knive, headlamp, flashlight, lighter. Middle console I have another all in one screwdriver, glasses, gloves, excedrin, benedryl (allergic to nuts) and a few other meds.

Under seat storage I have the jack, some straps, jumper cables, blanket, more straps. Behind seats I have a tarp, more blankets, spare tubes for my bike, and a few water bottles for some odd reason. haha

    I need of these next

Wind up radios, which i have been meaning to replace since they are cheap. I am always looking for new survival shit to fill up the storage units in my truck. Plus i have a thing for good flashlights...wife makes fun of me for all this stuff...i need to show her this thread so she knows i really am not the only one who wants to be prepared!!

If you have msn sized hands, the sig is too small. Try out the H&K USP in a compact frame. It has alot if the features of the USP tactical without the price tag.

As a fellow flashlight enthusiast, check out the inova t4. Rechargeable 5 function flashlight. Mine is mounted inside my truck at the base of my seat so it's always in reach. I have been using this light for the past 6 years without failure. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0045U9QL0/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1357225692&sr=8-3&pi=SL75
