Hey folks. recently i put my 2011 a/c (31000miles) into 4 w/d because of ice. when i put it back into 2wd i noticed a vibe coming from the front. i have 5100s on the front at 1.75 only. the vibe is there when i shut it off and coast in neutral and its range is from 5 to 40 mph. im pretty sure its the front diff n asociated drive components. i ve lubed the u-joints and it remains. Can anyone tell me if the axles n shaft are spinning freely apart from the txfer case in 2 wd and if the diff locks in as a second lock-up electronically..(replacing the manual hubs of my 93 when put into 4wd?) im trying to isolate the source. Any help in trouble shooting would be appreciated . Thanx... I dont have an FSM but, but would a 2009 Haynes manual apply to my 2011.

Front cv joints will always be turning with the vehicle. The front drive shaft should spring freely in 2wd . If it's not then you're still in 4wd. Could be bearings, or something else if you feel it coming from the front. Check yourfront diff fluid also, you could be low causing a howling grinding noise too.

If you put it in 4wd and the vibe goes away then it is likely the typical out of tolerance bearing that toyota is not redesigning or doing anything about.

If this is the case the only known sure is to get an extended and correct tolerance bearing from east coat gear supply which is made specifically for this issue.

The vibe is on stock height trucks but more pronounced on lifted ones. Sometimes it will be more noticeable than other moments, it can change based on temp and if on or off throttle. You can live with it or change the bushing/bearing.
