Just the norm skids, sliders, & 35's
A vw diesel will get better mileage, my mom has one and it get 45-50 hwy mixed with back roads. Honestly besides what people think of them they aren't bad cars, just not practical for anything but commuting and getting grocery's.

    On another point
I drove a toyota yaris today about 150 miles , I gotta say if I was looking for a small efficient car I would choose that one. It's comfortable for it's size, faster then I expected too, it's pretty nice.

A high mpg vehicle is nice to have. I bought a 2008 KIA Rio like new with 40,000 miles for 6,000. It gets 35 mixed driving and 42 highway. I drive a 580 mile round trip to Lake Cumberland KY, At least 30 times a year. Hate being in a small car but the wallet loves it and keeps the miles off the better vehicles. Only bought it for the mileage and price.

If I could afford it, a little yaris would be my choice, there is many better choices then a prius .

if he wants economy, comfort, and looks, (13-17k) my grandpa's 06 mercedes e320 diesel gets ~45-55.

Ok after building a spreadsheet for him of the relative costs of various vehicles, he has decided that a Prius is not the best option.

Thank you guys for the info on some of the other vehicles.

I guess he needed the info spelled out in front of him.

"There are other vehicles just as fuel efficient as the Prius?!!!"

The new passat diesel wagon is awesome. My friends girlfriend has one, I'm 6'4" and fit comfortably in the back. There's plenty of room in the way back for actually being able to haul a fair amount too.

send him the link to priuschat and wash your hands of this. Don't let yourself be responsible for his inability to pick a car on his own. If it turns out to be a total POS you don't want it to come back and bite you in the ass.
