I tow with my Taco pretty often. Search for the thread in Towing called "6 Cylinder Towing Review". I've documented my towing experience both before and after installing a supercharger. I've got about 20,000 miles of fairly heavy towing on the Taco with zero issues.

Just went through this ... traded my taco for an ecoboost...just need the extra 3k in towing capacity for boat/trailer. Loved the Taco but hated the maxed out weight - over 12k gcvw.

IMO, get a half ton truck, from any of the big boys..... would fit your plans
better than the Taco. I got rid of my Duramax to downsize, since I only
tow my Jeep a couple of times a year. my trailer/Jeep combo on scale is 5500#
so I figured the Tacoma max rating of 6500# would be good... hooked it up for
a weekend, and while the Tacoma CAN handle it, it's not something I want to do
very often... currently trying to sell the Taco, and go back to a diesel...
would consider a 1500 if I got a killer deal on one

    Tundra with the 5.7!

I'm sure the tacoma and the tundra will get around 8-10mpg if you're towing anyways. Plus it's always better to have more power and capability than to be underpowered, isn't it?

If the tundra can tow this, I'm sure the tundra can tow your setup :D:

I hate to even say it on this forum......but you need a Chev 1500 with the 5.3L V8, short box with reg or ext cab. Should give you everything you need. Get a good GM Service contract on it cause after all, its no Toyota.

Get a 6.0L diesel! I used to have one, a Crew Cab auto Fx4, during right lane hwy speeds I'd get up to 21mpg (I knew guys that would get 14 or so while towing 10k), beat that with a 7.3. Pretty crazy for a 7500lb truck & 10k trailer! Thats better than what I usually get in the yota. If you get an 05+ model it's got the radius arm, coil sprung, front suspension that rides smoother than silk. Avoid the problems some people have, by staying on top of preventative maintenance, (aside from oil changes, very important with the HEUI injectors) meaning an EGR delete, coolant filter, and if your EOT & ECT are more than 15* apart, a remanned oil cooler, occasionally dogging it to get a full cycle of the veins in the turbo and it can be a very reliable engine. If you are mechanically inclined whatsoever these fixes can be performed by the average shade tree mechanic (check out 1puglife on youtube, he has videos of him replacing the EGR and oil cooler) Ford's 5R100 trans is bulletproof in stock form up to 500hp, and even at that power it can live for a while. My favorite part about my 6.0 and the part I miss most was the turbo whistle, a straight-piped 03 or an engine with a powermax turbo sounds un-godly.

Did I mention 700+ rwtq with just a tune, although I wouldn't recommend doing that anywhere but a dyno without ARP headstuds.

But really if you want my $0.02, you should weigh the mpg differences with the initial costs of buying a truck. For instance, figure how much it would cost you to buy the new/newer truck after the trade-in of your f250, then see what the fuel savings would be, and then see how much longer you could drive the truck you have and still save moneys.

And the v6 taco clutch sucks. I tow a 3500lb boat with the taco now and whenever I start backing it... well its just not good for my taco.:(
