It all really depends on what he is going to do with them. My line of work I have to us non polarized sunglasses because of the survey equipment screens are hard to see with polarized, also polarized lenses I have found make the shadows darker and I miss stuff like grade changes with polarized, all the operators around me are the same cant have polarized makes it harder to do there job.

I have polarized for driving and several different pair of Oakley's mainly because they come with some what of a CSA rating, if you need proof they have a page on there website dedicated to people that have been wearing there glasses and the damage done when hit. Other reason for different pairs is different lenses depending on my light conditions and weather that I am in.

I prefer polarized sunglasses hands down! The raybans are top quality that is for sure, but the price is too high for me, I always break mine lol, I finally found a spot online where I can pick up a 12 pair for less than one pair of raybans; that way when i sit on one pair, I just grab another! lol I go thru CTS Wholesale Sunglasses.

Costa & Maui Jim are the best lenses you can get period (primarily due to lens material). They are Very expensive with Many different frame styles depending on your fathers style/preference.
I have photophobia (light sensitivity) issues, so I personally wear Amber Polarized Oakleys full-time (rain/shine/snow) until it is quite dark out, and as previous members have stated, the main concern is having to tilt my head on occasion to read certain displays.. Oakleys are a fantastic company especially for Prescription Sunglasses due to the technology they use for grounding curved lenses..
    Long story short..
    1) Polarized or Not depends on how your father will be using his sunglasses.. If your father will be wearing the sunglasses for Fishing at all, then you should Definitely get him polarized lenses as this is the only method to block rays of light reflecting off of surfaces (i.e. lakes, windows, wet asphalt, snow).
    2) If he has Clear Rx Glasses (bifocal/single vision) now, then you should invest in Rx Sunglasses... otherwise if he wears contact lenses or no Rx for driving, then a simple Non-Rx pair of polarized sunglasses will do.. but rest assured, you get what you pay for.. a high quality lens (for us OR for our trucks is Always going to be More Expensive than a junky one).

    Hope that helps..

Good stuff guys, thanks for the input.

Think I will get him some polarlized Ray-Bans. Will keep the receipt cause the chance I pick the frames that will feel most comfortable on his noggen is small, so he can exchange them for another set of Ray-Bans, or even Maui Jims if he prefers those.

Kaenon sunglasses are some of the best glasses I've owned. There around 300 bucks. So not cheep like ray bans or Oakley's. But the vision out of them is amazing

And if 300 is to expensive for your taste. I probably shouldn't mention a little company called chrome hearts hands down the nicest glasses on the market

If you do any hunting or fishing or drive in snow polarized are a must. I have Smiths because they come in wrap around, neutral gray so colors stay true, and coated glass lenses. The glass lens do fog up a little more but even after 6 years they are not scratched. Lifetime warranty on the Smiths.

My dad fishes a little, but not enough to be a determining factor.

He works for a school district and is usually running around in the board truck, so most of the use he will get out of a pair of glasses will be while driving around the city.

He walks a lot too, and we go hiking, so will probably wear them then too.

One thing that worries me, is he is supposed to be wearing Rx glasses, but doesn't. Not sure if that will affect his abiltiy to wear non Rx glasses (polarized or not).

polarized. i have astigmatism and its a bitch sometimes. UV rays burn my eyes, and my Raybans are awesome. I personally like the rb3445, which will be my next pair. they're pricey, but worth it.
