Turn vehicle on if you want maximum wattage. Press button on dash. Test for proper operation by inserting one end of a paperclip into the outlet and holding the other end in your mouth. If outlet is operating correctly, you will know.

Plug something in. Turn truck on. Push button. This might sound sarcastic but its not meant to be. Pretty straight forward.

On a side note. That thing is handy. Brought the george forman to the mountain made hamburgers. If my girl is making us late i run an extension cord into the cab so she can do her hair while im driving. And installed my sliders at a campsite using my drill off it

Almost but completely backwards.... 400w when the key is in the ON position, 100w when the truck is running.

OP Turn the key to ON and enjoy

Uh...I believe it's the other way around...I don't want to commit because I don't have my owner's manual in front of me right this second, but I believe it's 400w at idle because the system gets love from the alternator.

Googling leads me to believe it drops to 100w if the engine is running and the transmission is in gear. 400w with engine running in park or neutral. 100w with electrical on.

    this.

truck is on and parked, 400w, in gear/driving 100w

doesn't handle my little air compressor...not good on other small items that have a lot of draw initially on start up, but great for everything else.

Yeah. The big limitation is the thing only pushes about 3.5 amps.

It's useful for some little things...inflating air mattresses, low-power tools, charging my phone...hard to get much more current out of a vehicle though when it already has to power itself...
