I am having a hell of a time with this new version of itunes and deleting duplicates and figuring out why its adding duplicates. I started by deleting all my music off my computer and replaced it with music of which I know doesn't have any duplicates, yet every time it loads onto itunes it has a ton of duplicates. And with the new version I dont know how to ask it to show these duplicates, anyone who can help please tell me how to figure this out.

Do you have it set to copy all of your music into the itunes folder and manage your music?

iTunes now has a default option in preferences where it pulls music off the cloud and puts it in all your libraries. So if you have 2 computers on the same account, you can share across those 2 computers music that may not be on another. I had music that I must have purchased years ago for my sibling that I don't listen too that had showed up in there. Turn that function off and see if it fixes it.

Other than that I haven't had any issues with the new iTunes.

Ok so I may have figured it out but not sure, when i click on one of the duplicates it tells me the song could not be located and when I try to locate the song it says the song is on a hard drive that could not be found. So maybe when it loaded the music it took it off both my external hard drive and the same exact music on my computer?

Edit: My music library folder is also unavailable when I try to go into it.

Did you use the "show duplicate items" under the View tab on the taskbar? (If you have a mac) Don't know where it is on windows.
