OK.. I see everyone referring to 285 tires and whether or not they will fit..

my question is what size are they referring too 285/65, 285/70 or 285/75.

Is it the height or width that is the issue..I am guessing the width or everyone would be referring to the height of the tire instead of the width.

I am wondering as I just installed my winter 235/85R16 tires.. Now I am looking for some tires for summer.. I am thinking of 285/65R17, they are 0.15" shorter but 2" wider but I am guessing they are to wide and will rub on the UCA. Getting a new wheel with less back space or getting a spacer would then cause them to rub on the fenders or cab mount.

Does any one have any thoughts or input??

It's a combination of both height and width. People run 285/60/18 on stock suspension with no issues, but in order to avoid rubbing even in street driving, 285/65/18s require a 2.5" lift and wheel spacers, in addition to minor trimming.

285/65/17 is not a common tire size. Which tires were you looking at in that size?

Yokohama makes an AT in that size.

Well I got a set of spider trax 1.25" spacers for Christmas from my soon to be in-laws..

So now I will see how they work with the 235s.. then decide on a size to run in the summer..
