I'm wondering who on here has a dedicated set of tires for late spring - early fall, and then transitions to snows for the winter months?

I'm looking to two different options for new tires and am interested by what others run.

    Dedicated wheel/tire package:

    1. Keep the Dunlops and purchase a set of FJ wheels + Blizzaks (then when the dunlops die, sell the factory wheels and upgrade to AT's.

Go over to a nice set of AT's year round:

    2. Purchase AT's and run the 16" TRD wheels. Sell the Dunlops on craigslist at a loss.

I don't mind the mileage and ride quality I'm getting with the dunlops. They are really quiet by my standards as well. The main issue is that its Minnesota, and while our weather is beautiful - you never know what surface you'll be driving on. The Dunlops have been just fine in up to 5-10" of snow, but where they have suffered is ice and slush.

I'll toss up some pictures of the truck in the welcome thread. Been slacking!

Year round ATs. 7 years in the AK with that set up.

Currently running some Nitto Terra Grappelers. They do ok. I think my personal favorite ATs are the BF Goodwrenches, with the Terra Grapplers being second.

On bad ice, the ATs won't do you much good. However, I have managed to avoid ending up in a ditch thus far, which is more than I can say for some people running studs :)

For the past couple years, I put on the stockers in the Heat of Summer to save the tread on my 285s - nice to get stock MPG and save my Meats for Winter

I run my duratracs year 'round, as I don't put enough miles on it justify the cost of the second set of boots and having to deal with the TPMS. I'm putting about 10-15K km per year on it and not much of that is highway, so wearing the softer rubber through the summer isn't a big deal to me. More highway miles would justify it for sure. Granted, duratracs are not as good as a dedicated winter tire for ice, but they are awesome in deeper snow and their winter rating is well earned. I will not run an "all season" tire in the winter, a winter rated A/T is pushing the limits in my opinion.

I do... 285 DC Mountaincats in the summer-ish months. In the winter I have a set of studded 265 Cooper Discoverer S/T tires. I'm even planning to get some A/T tires to add to the fleet for summertime.
