I hit and killed a deer awhile back and the only piece the broke, and mildly at that, was the passenger side flare extension piece on the front. I bought a new piece because I thought the crack would creep with vibrations and dropped it off at the local Mercedes Benz body shop to get painted. They have done work for us in the past and it had turned out perfect. I left the original piece for a color match and just picked up the finished piece last night.

The problem is that the new piece is MUCH smoother than the other flares. The color looks good but the original pieces have a rougher finish so it is noticeable. First, one if the guys said I bought the wrong piece and that there is a smooth and rough version. I showed him how both pieces had the exact same part number on the back and silence ensued. They brought out the painter and then a manager who asked if I put the flares on aftermarket?

Ultimately I asked what could be done to make it right, money not an object. They said they could reshoot the piece and try to get the clear to orange peel but if that did not work and they had to paint it again, it would be even smoother then it is now. They said I could buy another part and they could try to match it on the first shot, but no guarantees on that. Then they thought they could smooth out the rest of the fender flare and bumper to match the piece that they painted. The painter said that maybe the clear would shrink in a couple of days in the heat and that it would sink into the texture as it did.

They knocked the price in 1/2 for the painted piece and sent me on my way. My question is, has anyone gotten their flare repainted and how did it match afterwords?
