I have a 2010 Manual Transmission 4 cyl and the shifter cover makes this annoying rattle noise. Because it's a manual, the shifter knob is constantly vibrating. But when it is cold outside (winter), the shifter cover or something in the area makes a quick buzz/ticking sound. If I move the shifter, or put pressure on the bag, the buzzing stops.

Anybody know how to fix this or know what the problem is?

I searched for similar problems and I think all the responses are referring to automatics...

My 08 has done this since new. Dealer says its normal. I can make it go away for a while by using leather conditioner on the leather shift boot. They say the manual shifters all flop around & it's normal. Mine is most notable in 5th gear on the highway.

My six speed does this if the temperature is right. In my case it's the boot collar where it rests on the shift stick. I just give it a quarter turn to make the boot pull it down.

It may not be the best solution but it works. However I've had three stick shift vehicles and all three developed the twisted boot :p
