18" Sport Upgrade Wheels

The whole wheel is covered in plastic. Not just the center caps. But it's an alloy underneath

 

I saw them on a lot this weekend. I actually like chrome wheels, but definitely not a fan of these. I prefer something more like this:

 

Well I decided to go with the plain old aluminums. I put the order in for the spruce mica TRD Sport. There were three in production already and since I don't have to put in a special order for the "upgrade" I should have it in a few weeks! I am super excited because I have been driving my 99 GMC Sonoma since, well, 1999. I'm hoping the Taco lasts that long too! With their reputation, I'm sure that won't be a problem.

Heated leather seats as a port installed option...whatever that means! Coming to a driveway near me on April 27th.

 

Well when I went to the dealership, the sales woman made the mistake of showing me her two year old leather (which she purports to take meticulous care of) which seemed awfully cracked. So I just went ahead and changed the order to fabric seats. Oh well, saved me some cash.
Hope I like the spruce mica as much in person as I do in photos. There were none on the lot, even in Tundras.
To keep this post on topic, thanks for letting me know the true nature of the "upgrade" wheels. Really helped solidify my decision to get the machined alloys.
Can't wait to actually be one of you who owns a Tacoma!

 

The Spruce Mica is a gorgeous color, I am sure you will like it. I was up in the air between that and my SW.

I haven't seen a factory color that pretty in a long time.

 

Thanks again big D. I am very excited. I put a $500 deposit to redirect the truck from the N. Carolina dealership to where it was headed to Fort Walton Beach.
And since I decided against leather and got $300 more on my trade in appraisal than expected, I may get some extra goodies like the cargo divider and some bike mounts. And if comparable in price to a K&N or Volant, may get the TRD CAI. We'll see.

I didn't pay that much attention to the wheels when I picked up the truck. Thought they looked okay. After taking delivery of the truck and looking at things more closely I was disappointed to see these are simply plastic covers. They are coming off. In fact if I could unload them and the tires they came in that would be ideal. I'm opting for Nitto Terra Grapplers with XD796 Revolver wheels sometime soon.

I got the Spruce Mica and love the color. It's better when the sun hits it and really shows the green color. As for Toyota's attempt to pimp out their Tacoma's they failed miserably with these chrome clad plastic POS. If I do decide to remove them I'll have to get the gunmetal center caps to match as the centers are chrome as well, but it might be cheaper to go aftermarket. I'd love to get some TRD beadlocks and color match the center with the Spruce Mica.

 

Dealership called today...on my way to pick it up finally! Woo-hoo!

 

The wheels are actually nice silver powdercoated underneath. Just pull the chrome covers you have a good looking wheel

 

Shaggs, has anyone actually pulled these off yet though? Lots are talking about it but I've heard some talks about glue. And you'd need new center caps to match.

Any suggestions on a rim that'll look good on the Spruce Mica? I'd love to get the bead locks and color match them.

 

I have taken one off mine, and it looks really good underneath. Basically silver rim underneath loOks a lot like the wheel just without plastichrome.

There is a big difference between plastic covers and chrome-clad wheels. Wheel covers and hubcaps typically use a cheap low grade plastic and are removable. Clad wheels have the cladding bonded to the wheel and use a very expensive high impact composite. It is actually see that Toyota has the money to afford a durable chrome wheel versus the aftermarket stuff that is much less durable.
