Figured I would post this here, because I'm not entirely sure where to post this.

I dunno. Kinda scared, but excited. My buddy Neal is about to evict the dude living in his shed. The guy, (who we are all convinced is a meth head,) was living in the shed and using the house utilities, only paying $200 a month and taking care of the yard. Essentially, he was the groundskeeper and paid his utilities instead of a real rent. He doesn't take care of the yard at all any more, and hasn't paid in almost three months, so as soon as Neal's wife has her baby girl (who is due any day now) Neal is gonna tell the guy he's gotta go.
My best friend Robert, who is Neal's friend as well, told me about this today, and suggested I go talk to Neal about maybe moving into the shed. Robert and I have been talking about trying to get me out of my parents' house and out on my own. He was going to let me live with him, but at the moment, he doesn't have the room or the time to make room for me to move in. Even though I love my family, and I don't mind the set up I live in now, it would be better for me to get out. Get away from the poorness, take a load off my parents, get out of the cat-piss smell, (8 cats, 7 of which use the house as their litter box) learn to live on my own, not have to deal with my siblings not doing their jobs and thus leaving me with all the work- you know.
So I talked to Neal about it today when me and my dad went to go grab a load of scrap from his house. Dad was in the van while Neal and I talked, so he doesn't know yet. Neal confirmed that he is kicking the dude out, and that he's looking for another renter. He said If I move in, he reckons he'd charge me about 400 a month. Not bad, considering I'll have the whole shed to myself, (which is like 20x10 feet, I think, whereas the room I live in at my parents' house is the kitchen cupboard, only 5x7.) It has electricity and cable tv, and I'll have full access to the kitchen and bathroom in the house. The shed has its own giant attic that I can use for storage. Don't know if I'll be supplying my own food yet, or if I'll be eating with Neal and his family. On a bad note, the shed is uninsulated. It has sheetrock already on the walls, but no insulation. But it wouldn't cost much to insulate it. I work construction, so I can definitely insulate it. It'll just be a bit of a pain in the dick to have to take down the sheetrock just to put in insulation. I'm sure too, though, that if I did buy the insulation and put it up, Neal would cut me a break on rent.
I'm nervous as fuck, though. I know I make enough money to pay rent-that's not the problem. I make between 750 and 1000 a month, so that's no problem. But right now, I don't have any bills besides my phone (and the rent I give my parents)- what about when I get my truck on the road and get my license, and I have to pay insurance and everything? I don't know how much it will cost to insure my truck and all that- and with it being winter now, work is slowing down. That's the nature of construction.
And also, I have a cat. Cole is my baby, and I don't want to leave him behind. I know he'd be taken care of if I left him at my family's house, but I don't want to do that to him, or dump him off on my parents. But I don't know if he would want to live cooped up in a shed. He's not an outdoor cat- too fat for that. Not only that, but I don't know yet if they will let me bring him. I'm sure they will, because Cody (a boy I went to school with that rents one of Neal's rooms) has a dog, a two-year-old pit named Romeo.
So really, I don't know. I'm just gonna have to talk to Neal some more, and grow some balls. I've gotta grow up, and this is an excellent opportunity to take charge of my own life.
