Did you have to floor it to keep up with traffic, too, or was my engine just whipped? :D
My top speed on miles of dry, level, windless pavement was an indicated 63 mph.

Mine had a 2600cc engine (I think). That may not be the correct size but it was not the base model. It was a little quicker than you described. The worst part about mine is that the guy I got it from had used it to hit a deer and then a curb and several small trees, so it (the car) had never really recovered. The price was right for a college undergrad. It was not a chick magnet however.

God I love it out west. If I didn't live in Florida I'd move here. The last picture of the Desert looks very nice.

    1. '78 Oldsmobile Starfire - Studying Shakespeare on the way to school, sister steered it into a telephone pole from the drivers seat.

    2. '73 Chevy Impala - Dropped the tranny attempting a neutral drop.

    3. '84 Pontiac Fiero 4 cylinder, Iron Duke - First car I ever had where the carpet mats would slide forward and stick the gas pedal to WFO. Our Taco's now have clips built in to prevent this. Traded it for a...

    4. '86 Pontiac Fiero, SE V6. Brand new (first new car). Put 150K on before the tranny blew. Fun car, I miss that one. I blame the tranny failure on myself. Who knew you had to check the fluid, much less change it?

    5. '90 something Chevy Beretta, Z26. Quad Four. Fast. Traded it to my brother for his '84 CJ7. I miss that car too. But I finally learned, stop getting rid of the vehicles! The CJ is sitting in the driveway, marking its spot (if there are any other CJ owners in the house...). Still drive it, over 200K on it's odo.

    6. '93 Honda VFR 750, white with the single sided swingarm. Sitting in the garage right now, needs a new rear tire. 35k on it. And no, it's not for sale.

    7. '98 Honda Passport, brand new, biggest piece of crap ever. Totally soured me on Honda's (I know, I know, it's an Isuzu, but Honda wouldn't stand by it from day one. Lost me as a customer.) Even though it was the biggest POS ever, it made it to 180K before I tried that high speed cell phone dialing thing that REALLY IS so dangerous, and knocked an Explorer from Georgia into a Prius from Texas. Welcome to Colorado, now go back home. Anyone ever experience airbags? I'm semi-PTSD from Baghdad, I thought I took an RPG. Like a shotgun going off in your face. I don't recommend it. Blew the F'ing cell phone into the rear storage compartment. Oh yeah, it's funny now, but it sure sucked then.

    8. '02 Harley Davidson SuperGlide. Wanted a V-twin, was looking at Ducati's. The salesman at Fey Myers (did they ever determine how that fire started?)didn't take me seriously and wouldn't allow me to take a fairing off to look at the engine and wouldn't do it for me, so two days later I was indoctrinated into the Harley brotherhood. Ever other motorcycle I've ever ridden seems like a toy compared to this Harley. Sitting in the garage with 30k on it, needs a new front tire.

    9. '08 Taco. Sweet. Should have stayed with the manual tranny though, this engine begs for a manual. But I was feeling shiftless when I was car shopping, this is my first automatic. Denver rush hour is much nicer with auto, but climbing hills, even slight hills, is a flurry of downshift then downshift some more.

My family has had Toyotas for many years now so I know how reliable the are.

    Grandaparents:
    2 4cyl Corollas
2 4cyl auto Camrys (still have)

    Mother:
4cyl 5spd Corolla (traded for new car to teach me with)
94 4cyl 5spd Camry (what I learned to drive in, traded due to numerous small repairs piling up and body rust)
04 4cyl Rav4 (think she wanted something bigger with AWD)

    Myself:
93 4cyl auto 2dr Tercel (small f'n car! Had 89k on it, fish tailed all the time in snow, started using a quart of oil each week then traded it)
98 4cyl 5spd Corolla (bought with 48k on it, only manual I could find, didn't want to put engine work into Tercel, still have but want to trade it)
2006 V6 DC Tacoma (first new vehicle! Tired of buying cars that needed work, used were damn near as much as new, wanted 4wd and more room for family)
