Differential fluid???

    12 Taco. Extcab TRD XP PRO 4x4 auto
    I own a 02 taco 2.7l and want to change diff. and transfer fluids. I have the linkn for the instructions to change all but my lengthy question is do I use GL5 75-90 LS...or non LS diff fluid and is the transfer case fluid the same as the diff.s I have spec sheet from Toyota and there is no mention of LS(limited slip) fluid just 75-90

    For the most part.... Most 1st gen trucks did not come with limited slip diffs.

    The reason why I say 'most' is because I had a 96 Toyota Service manual and there was an LSD diff diagrams in the manual.

    If you have an open (non-LS) diff...you can use the LS fluid. It doesn't matter if you use LS or non-LS fluids in an open diff and doesn't matter if it has friction modifier in it.

    In the case of a mechanical LS diff - you need friction modifier. Some gear oils will say 'For LS diffs' but they do not contain friction modifiers. Some oils actually do have the friction modifiers in it. You have to read the labels carefully.

    I have always avoided using a gear oil with friction modifiers in my t-case. I don't know if its that critical just have never wanted to take the chance.
