Which rear diff fluid??

    A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
    Mobil 1 cause it is available. Most places I can't get Redline or Royal Purple w/o having to order it.

    I like Redline because it is a Type V synthetic, whereas Mobil is a type IV.

    I believe Royal Purple is also a Type V.

    One last quick question. Im using toyota type 4 for the transmission, ot should be any problem running synthetic on the rear diff correct??

    toyota type 4 is correct and you need 4-4.5 quarts. the manual is an error.

    I may have caused some confusion, so I'll try to clarify;

    GL vs Type.

    GL-4 is for bronze syncos and other gearboxes with bronze.

    GL-5 is for gearboxes without bronze. One of the friction modifiers in GL-5 will chemically attack bronze.


    Type IV synthetic is a stabilized Dino oil the Mobil won the right to call synthetic by suing the FTC for the right to do so.


    Type V is a truly synthetic ester formulated turbine oil. The demands of jet turbine bearings far exceed those of a gasoline piston engine.


    So, back to the original question. I do not have a Taco manual in front of me so I can't answer the weight question, but I can answer a few others.

    Don't run GL-5 in a tranny that specifies GL-4 or you will ruin it.

    MOST differentials run GL-5.

    Diff oil with the limited slip additive can be run in NON limited slip rear ends, and diff oil without the limited slip additive can be run in limited slip rear ends PROVIDED YOU INCLUDE THE FRICTION MODIFIER ADDITIVE.

    yah took me FOREVER to make my decision but redline 58304 75w-90 NON limited slip and you need EXACTLY 3 quarts. That works! Have it iin my rear diff since late 2011 and NEVER had any problems. GO FOR IT!! cheap on Amazon!! free ship too

    I didn't know GL rating was different from "Type". News to me.

    I understand. I'm always learning more about lubricants too. :)

    It can get tough to cut through the marketing hype and internet rumors sometimes.


    Kevin Cameron and Motorcycle Consumer News have published some really good information in the past.
