I had a 92 Toyota pick up 4x4 with a small coolant leak that I sold for $2200. I drove it every day to work and what not. Had a baby and had to many vehicles sold it cheap. You can find good deals for sure.

I bought an '89 4x4 single cab with 22re engine for $2650 seven years ago. Had 200k on it but it was a one owner and ran good. I put 55k on it, a new set of steelies and some cheapo 31x10.50s, and sold it for $2900. When I put it up for sale, I had parked it on my friends land that was on a busy highway, and didn't make it to my wife's car before someone stopped and made an offer. The deals are out there, but they go fast.

    That is a tough call.

The 4.3 S10 engine/trans combo is pretty bulletproof. The 3.8 had a lot of trans problems.

    But....

The TBI 4.3 is a typical TBI. Maintenance is comparable to a carb. I had problems with my '95 Suburban.
The next generation 4.3 EFI system on the Vortec had issues with leaking regulators and pinholes in the fuel supply lines.
Not a difficult fix, and not terribly expensive if you find the right source for the spider, but it's still a pain to have the manifold open for a couple of hours.

I don't know of any issues with the next generation ('95 and later), but those are going to be more than $2500.

Ranger? It's a Ford. I've had serious problems with 3 Fords. I won't own another one.
