    I have a 2003 Taco and i want to upgrade the sound system.
    Only problem is, i cant find any headunits that are as easy to use or as basic as it.

    I have an aftermarket headunit in my other car and i hate how if i accidently click a different button than the one intended i have to cycle through 3-5 options in order to get back to where i was originally.

    Id like to keep the initial purchase price <150 dollars for the HU.
    Or can someone help me figure out how to keep the stock HU, get an ipod adapter attached to it, and a sub/amp combo for that ghetto bass.
    Ive been told a "line output converter" would work but would is the "cheap" way out.
    And ive been told to check out the "hifonics 1000wrms" amp and two 10" subs for clearer and harder bass hits.

    Clearly im not an audiophile so some input would be appreciated.

    Oh and overall id have a budget of 300-500 dollars.

    I have a Kenwood in mine..couple years old, cost me about $150. Nice thing is the remote has a "back" button on it so you can go back one screen at a time. I believe Pioneer has a similar setup..what do you have in your other ride?

    Mixed reviews on the converters. They work but I've had issues with static and whatnot myself..if it was me I'd spend the bucks for aftermarket, both between that and where you have a 2003. I'm surmising you have the original radio, so it's 10 years old. Say you do the converter and then in a few months the radio dies, you'll probably buy an aftermarket radio..and the converter is useless.

    Another plus of aftermarket is they all come with an input for an MP3 player just about, even in the $150 range. My Kenwood has a 3.5mm (headphone sized) jack and USB. I can grab the model # off it if that helps you. To add a line-in for that you're another $60-$70 plus your time.

    Amp and sub..I'd go at least one 10". I'm picky about the stuff but I would try to go with 2 10"s if it was me. Hifonics make a good amp..I currently have a Jenson 200x2 running Polk 12"s, but when it dies Hifonics is one I would look into further.

    Check crutchfield. They have a couple decent doubles that are below your set price plus they toss in the install kit and wire harness. bought all my other ones through them and always had great service.

    @aba: yeah its the stock HU, and yes a model # would be helpful.
    And id have to check what HU my other car has, friend gave it to me so i didnt realize how annoying it could be.
    Originally i wanted one 12" but a coworker explained how bass is affacted in such a small space, my small cab lol.

    @steve:
    Okay sweet that def helps to keep it within my budget then. Ill check out the site once im off work.
