my 09 pre-runner doesn't have speakers in the rear doors.if i turn the balance to the rear all the way it sounds like theres speakers or something in the headliner.anybody run into this?it was a base truck no trd or anything.4 cylinder, manual.

I have the same thing in my '10 Access Cab TRD. The rear "speakers" are these tiny little units in the headliner that use the headliner itself to resonate the sound. I was going to buy all new speakers but I have no clue what those are or if you can even upgrade them.

Not sure if you can upgrade the ones in the headliner.. I have the same.. But I plan to get just front door speakers and run them off of a amp.. And that should make the sound quality way better!
I actually like the factory stereo/head unit.. So Im not going to change that.

I've been reading up on all the threads people have started about the rear door speakers, or lack there of, in the 09+ access cabs. Seems almost all of the audiophiles say the front is way more important than the rear for sound. You CAN add rear speakers to the doors since the door frame is the same and still has the speaker cut out but the interior door skin doesnt have the speaker grill.

After reading others posts I think Im going to buy a decent pair of speakers for the front and leave the rears alone. If anything, maybe turn the fade towards the front speakers more.

Next question is, 6 1/2 round or 6x9 speakers for the front doors?

my stock head unit is starting to screw up again,so im gonna replace it and replace the 4 speakers up front with something better.i just thought those speakers in the headliner was kinda odd.
