I just bought a G4 Elite for my brand-new DC tacoma, and I have a question if anyone knows.
The instructions says the footman's loop should be mounted half an inch from the top of the tailgate liner. So, I drilled two holes there, but that's just right at the top of the tailgate (the steel inside the liner).
So, my question is should I have made the holes further down and drill through the tailgate steel or should I go a little bit closer to the top of the tailgate liner so that I only make the holes on the liner (the plastic).

    Thank you!

    Lots to come
I drilled two holes in the steel and used screws instead of the rivets...didn't have a rivet gun....anyway worked out just fine...the top of the loop is 1/2 inch from the edge of the tailgate and the center of the screw is at 5/8...it was enough to catch steel and bite..holds good

i didn't find enough steel, so I did nuts and large washers into the plastic. I also bent the prong so it fits into the loop easier
