Horn, Cigarette Lighter & 2 other Power Outlets Not working

Replaced fuses no luck. Everything else seems to be working ok, is there a relay or something else that would affect them both.......or am I looking at 2 seperate problems?

Thanks! Just got the truck about a month ago & working on things when I get a chance...putting on new parking brake cable in the morning matter of fact.

2000 Base model (2.4l 2z model engine) 2wd

 

Bump...still can't figure it out.

On the other hand, installing the new parking brake cable was a breeze.

 

Did you get your truck new? You know that the power outlets are OFF when the key is off?

Have the power outlets been modified to stay on when the truck is off?

If they have something may have gone wrong with the mod. (loose wire, etc.)

If they have not been modified it could be the relay that is supposed to turn them on when the truck is on.

You can get instructions for the constant power mod here. They show where the relay is located and how to get to it. The docs were written based on a 2005, they worked fine for my 2007. I am not sure if the 2008 is the same.

Also, I think that there are fuses both in the cab and under the hood that effect these.

I do not think the power outlet relay would effect your horn.

 

Yea I checked the fuses in both places, no dice. Guess I'll check for shorts & maybe wire the horn dirtectly to the battery for a second to see if it works or not.

This is a truck that was bought new by a friend who sold it to me recently. Besides a new stereo that was installed a long time ago (things still worked after that installation), there are no other mods.

 

If you have a multimeter, set it to less than 20VDC. Start taking measurements. Dont really know if all those things share a common ground but start at the fuses. Make sure you connect to a good ground as well. Where doors latch and seatbelt bolts tend to be the best grounds on cars. Make sure nothings painted when checking for grounds.

 

Ok yea I feel stupid. My outlets all work, the thing I was using to test the outlets....not so much!

As for the horn, it was the horn itself. Put in a replacement and good to go!
