    Hi all.
Funny thing happened when I went to a toyota dealer for some WS ATF for my truck. They said that I cannot do it since they need to do the servicing. ?????????????
They said that it reqires a temperature monitoring to ensure all is working ok?
First, are these guys trying to rip me off or is this a valid response?
Second, is there an equivalent I can get from your local auto parts store?

    thanks.

Its valid dude, cuz you have a sealed tranny and if you dyi and make a mistake, your looking at a tow and a i told you so, from the dealer, toyota made this error making the darn thing sealed and only the dealer can do it there is a thread here that describes a way to do it but i wouldn't try it though....good luck

The how to on TW is really decent and the dealer will hose you on the job. If you don't feel goood about it let them swap out four quarts. The factory filter is a strainer and really doesn't need swapping out.

I did mine on my 07 almost 2 months ago with no problems, just follow the step here if you look and no problems using the Amsoil low viscosity ATF. I did the spark plugs, engine oil, diff and trans in 3 hours. It's really not that hard, and only the FWD cars are sealed for life due to the light duty nature of cars, and trucks need more maintenance than cars of similar design. Say a 2005 Avalon, same engine family, similar trans design, but very different requirements.

The dealer is just trying to make a buck off of you.
