I know this has to have bothered someone else...

I have a 2006 TRD sport 4x4 and I'm trying to figure out a way to wire up the gauge lights to the head light switch so they only come on when the lights are on. Right now they're on all the time and I really don't think it's necessary. I've been using the dimming switch to turn them off during the day and on at night but it's really annoying to do that.

I couldn't find a post on here anywhere about this issue so I'm hoping for some suggestions. I keep meaning to check if the newer models have this feature. If so, maybe it'd be like the DTRL mod where I just need to buy the harness/ jumper cable to add this feature. Thanks guys.

Just ignore them. They're hardwired to the cluster power.
The cluster lights are LED and will last the life of the truck.
The lights on the ventilation panel, as well as the pushbutton switches are actual lamps, and only come on with the headlights.

I hear ya... it was annoying when I first got my truck. Sun would go down and I'd think the headlights were on... just have to learn to go by the green light bulb on the left side... or leave the headlights on 24/7... they'll shut off when you remove the key and then open the door.

That's a good idea! Ill have to try that and see what happens.

If that doesn't work, would you suggest running a wire from the illumination wire in my head unit wire harness, or will that not work? Thanks for the feedback.

OP, did you ever try this and get it to work? I also find this to be very annoying, I've never seen another vehicle that does this:confused:. And on top of this, the dimmer dial itself is'nt lighted, so when you get in the truck when it's dark and turn on the headlights, you still have to feel around for the dimmer. Dumb.
