I kind of felt the same way you did about your charger. But once I put on the 3.8" under drive pulley it was a different story. It really woke up the supercharger and gave it the kick in the pants it needed. I highly recommend it.

This is why I have the truck for everday use, and a bike for when I want to go fast. Try getting a car, or a tacoma to go that fast and be that much fun. It would add up to a lot.. Cheap thrills on two wheels, works for me!

I'm on the fence on whether its worth it or not for various reasons, but I think the supercharger is best intended for an X-runner. The supercharge kit price can be argued because there are upper trim levels like the TX's or Baja which in themselves add $2k-$5k extra to the cost of a top level TRD Off-road... Toyota's approach with a supercharger is different than other manufacturers, instead of it being a low volume factory option that will give sticker shock to some potential customers, its a factory aftermarket kit.

Personally, I didn't buy the Tacoma to race, or overly speed, down the public roads or highways. Pickup trucks are just not built to do that safely, and it's illegal too. Thus, how fast the Tacoma goes in the 1/4 mile, or from 0-60, is of no interest whatsoever to me - though the odd obsession by others about all that (like this thread) is certainly a passing curiosity.

Instead, after looking at the stuff normally hauled or pulled (friends, tools, small boats, 18-19' ultralight trailers, etc), I purchased a truck to handle exactly that. As a result, the stock Tacoma serves me very well, easily hauling or pulling what I need and certainly fast enough to get me where I need to go.

My unloaded truck (even on the most deserted roads) has never been above 80-85mph (and likely never will be), which is just fine for me. That allows me to sit back, turn up the music, and cruise - all at a comfortable level.

    Because race car!

    What about the X-Runner??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

If you don't want an argument don't state stupid opinions and this by far is one of the dumbest ones I have read. So why mod anything ever? I guess the guys with 30k into their wheeling trucks are stupid as well?.....Please.

It's not common sense. It sounds stupid and ignorant to me especially on a site dedicated to trucks and modifying them.

He stated his own opinion ("It's never made any sense to me.."). If your opinion is different, fine. However, his opinion is just as valid as yours, especially since he's talking about himself, not you.

My only opinion was that his opinion was stupid. Both are opinions so take them for what they are worth. NOTHING.

I dont understand the whole "why supercharge it, its a truck buy a sports car" thing. Its a modification like any other mod. To those people that think that why lift your truck when you can just buy a unimog, same concept. I had the supercharger on my previous 2 tacomas. I didnt buy it to beat that silly Honda civic down the street I bought it cause I had money to throw around and for towing (and no I dont want a fullsize either) ...to each his own. Adding an intake will wake up those things and URD pulley believe me :D

    Is now SuperCharged
I can't wait for TRD to release the 2013 version for the same reason I have and Edge tuner on my SuperDuty diesel pickup. Because I want it!

If I only bought stuff based on "need" hell, I'd hardly have anything fun. Most of the stuff I have I don't really need but I've never let that stop me and until someone else starts paying my bills, I guess I'll just keep on buying senseless stuff I want but don't necessarily need. ;)

Wait! If I need it because I want it, does that count?!?! lol

    At the moment, I only have the TRD Supercharger and a AFE Cold Air Intake. 1/4 mile time was 14.3. A quick video clip - skip to 2:20 for my run;

I am getting ready for 2013 and more mods.

My great grandpa wants me to buy the supercharger, says my grandpa was an old Kansas bootlegger, claims they used to modify their cars with turbos or superchargers, he just wants to see the technology. He claims they got the octane up by using the pure alcohol they were bootlegging. He's a rare one, old dude used to take a wagon and put compressed air cylinders on it, cut the releases, that thing took off like a rocket. Had railcar wheels and a section of track he dug up from somewhere.
