I am about to contact my dealer to get the rear leaf TSB done on my 2011 DBL Cab TRD 4x4. I am closing in on 30k miles and want this done before I am out of warranty.

I am just curious....from those who have contacted the dealer to have this done. Did you just tell them up front you are aware of the TSB or do you play dumb and let them suggest you have it done?

To me I should just be able to tell them I know about it and I want it done...but I also don't want to start off on the wrong foot and have to plead/argue to get it done.

BTW.....After I get it done I would like to get the Billsteins because I will be needing tires in a few months and want to go up in size. I am reading many...many....many threads now...ahhaa...as I am very happy with the ride the way it is now so I don't want it to get too stiff ...but I want some lift....and don't want to spend a grand to get it...actually I'd like to stay under $400-ish to do it....I know I know....I'm asking a lot.

Yes, tell the dealer you know about the TSB. Also, bring a copy of the official TSB from Toyota. If that particular dealer has not done the service before, they may get it wrong, so bringing in the printout of the TSB will give them specifics to refer to (such as part numbers and the correct order to perform the task).

had mine done about 6 months ago. had to go to two different dealerships. the first one wanted me to make an apt with my truck loaded down and have a tech take a look at it. they also said they'd never heard of it before. the second dealership i called over the phone. they also said they'd never heard of it before, BUT he looked it up and said no problem. they did make me take it in just to take a look at it.

honestly, most dealerships probably don't know about the Rear TSB. but if you're friendly and talk to them about it you'll get it.

TSBs are provided to the dealers to help correct issues. They aren't issued to vehicle owners. Don't call but physically walk up to a service advisor and mention that your vehicle has a very "harsh ride" when loaded and is there anything they can do to help correct the issue. Don't expect the service advisor to know what you are talking about. They will want to schedule an appt. to look at your issue. At this point mention that you had read about a TSB that may pertain to your issue. Don't walk in with a sense of entitlement. The dealership will make it harder than it needs to be.

Had to goto two different dealers aswell. I called the first dealer, told them i was experiencing a rough ride when i carried heavy loads in the bed. Made an appointment for them to take a look at it. I brought a copy of the TSB with me. Took them almost 3 hours to look at the truck (while i waited!). I was pissed, service manager says the tech found nothing wrong with the truck. Told them they needed to have weight in the back and showed him the TSB. He said it doesnt apply to my truck. I basically told them to f'off and thanks for wasting my time (never liked this dealer to begin with.. getting the noisy blower motor fixed was a nightmare also).

I brought it to another dealer nearby my house. Explained the rough ride..etc. They said bring it in so they could look at it. Showed them the TSB and they 'inspected' the rear suspension. 15 minutes later the service manager came out and said they ordered the parts and to come back next week to have them installed.

What was funny about the 2nd dealer is i took a dozen pictures of the truck with about 500lbs loaded up in the bed, showing the sag and how close the bump stops were to bottoming out on the frame. I didnt even need to show them these.

Basically i would bring the TSB with you. And just make sure you say you are experiencing a rough ride when towing or carrying a heavy load (4-500lbs) in the bed or towing. What i did when i was talking to the service manager was say i found a TSB for the rear leaf springs and i was pretty sure that was my problem.

    ^^^^^ this

like i said, i could have kept my apt with the first dealership and brought my truck in weighted down. but i got lucky with my second dealership phone call. no problems. it's probably easier because i live in the city with 5 toyota dealerships within 30 miles.

I wanted to follow up on this. I e-mailed the service manager of the dealer I use(have bought 4 vehicles there and use them for service) and told him I was experiencing a harsh ride when hauling payload or trailering and asked if he was aware of any issues. He e-mailed me back asked a few questions about trailer tongue weight, total weight etc and said when hauling any truck will feel different. He ended by saying he could call me if I had more questions.

I called him today(I e-mail and call because they are 45 minute drive from me) and explained more and told him I did some research and saw there was a TSB on the issue. He didn't seem to know about it and he would like to look it up and call me back.

He called me back about 15 minutes later and said the TSB does apply and he will order the parts and set a tentative date and he will call me when the parts come in and make sure that date is good with me.

    Nice!!

Just got mine done. I took a copy of the tsb with me. Told them I had roughly 400 lbs in the bed and was right at the bump stops. Then mentioned the tsb to which the SA told me he'd never heard of it but started looking it up. So I then mentioned I had a copy. He said great, that makes it easier. I did this while going in for mast last Toyota care service. They took it in did the oil change and normal service and then looked at it and then confirmed with me that I wanted it done. They tried to talk me out of it saying it would go from a rough ride loaded to a rough ride all the time. Ha! It really doesn't seem any rougher to me. The rear seems tighter if that makes sense. I like it.

But my reason for the post in here was about the shocks. The tsb stated new rear shocks. They didn't change them which is fine because I have 5100's sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Also was wondering if they changed anything on this tsb? Because I only gained about half an inch. I've read on here that it would give 1-1.5 inches and then settle to .5-1 inch. If it settles any then I won't have gained any height. But as it sits right now I'm good with setting the 5100's at 1.75 which is what I see a lot of on here to have the truck level.

So anyway mine came with the 2 leafs, new u bolts and stated they did an alignment.

Part number for the leafs are
    48210-35A20 RR RH
    48220-35020 RR LH

How many leafs am i supposed to have in the rear? Ive been reading on tsb but not quite understanding. I think i read that after tsb im supposed to have 3 curved and 1 straight. I looked at mine this afternoon and i have 2 curvedand 1 straight. Do i need to get this done? Does it cost to have it done by toyota and does my truck have to be under warranty? I have a little over 67,000 miles on it and ive only had it for a month and a half

You have to be in warranty, 3/36 I believe. But if you only have 3 total then you don't have it. Probably be better off to get an aftermarket aal. (Add a leaf)

As far as if you need it done, it's a matter of opinion. Do you haul or tow a lot?

My rear went up about a half inch. I've only had it a few days. I think others who had it done recently said it didn't settle much. Hopefully it doesn't. Hell the leaf itself is probably 1/2 thk so it shouldnt settle much.

Shocks don't get changed for the 2011. I have a 2011 and mine didnt get changed. TSB states the 2011 already has the updated shocks.

2 questions for the wise here

    -Is this available for 2013's????

-How do I get a copy of the tsb?

I have my 550lb atv loaded in the bed and its sagging 2-2.5 inches. I'd be alot happier with a firmer rear end, just like my women. ;)

    Thanks

Haven't really hauled or towed anything yet. Maybe in the spring and summer I may pull my 6x10 open trailer with a mower and things like that if I decide to mow grass on the side. Haven't decided on that yet since we our daughterjust turned a year old
