I am trading in my 2009 tacoma tomorrow so I put the factory radio back in and now the dash lights do not work. Does anyone have any ideas of what I did? Is there a fuse for just the dash lights that I may have missed? Any help is appreciated. I have to get it back working for tomorrow. Thanks in advance

There is a 10A fuse for the dashboard illumination. Make sure that you didn't turn down the brightness rheostat before you check the fuses though, that seems more likely.

I checked the fuse which was a 7.5 (hope i found the right one, it was labeled gauge) and it was fine. I even replaced it just incase. Does anyone have any other ideas? My next step is to pull the radio again and find which wire controlls it

I just had a problem yesterday with a blown fuse. Is there any other systems that are effected? Mine was the 10A ignition fuse under the dash. Killed my lights, transmission was stuck in park, ac didnt work and alarm didnt work. If you have a multi meter, just check the fuses to make sure they have power on both ends instead of pulling them.

mines a stick and doesnt have an alarm. Mine was a 7.5 amp labeled gauge (2nd in on the top) The dimmer works on the heat and air controls and the traction contol button. The radio and dash illumination lights do not work no matter where the dimmer is

Did you have to cut any wires in the harness when you installed the aftermarket radio back in the day?

no i've been playing with the dimmer, it controls some things but not the radio or dash. Do 2nd gens have a fuse under the hood too? Ive been reading and some people say they have a "panel" fuse under the hood but some of them are talking about 1st gens. I am going back out tomorrow morning

I dont believe so but if i cant find anything I am going to check that when I pull the radio. I remember having to either put power or ground the orange wire on the aftermarket radio harness to make the lights work but I didnt touch the harness in the truck

You know, I am thinking back to when I put in my new system. There is a ground wire in the back that I had missed, it caused my dash lights and stereo to not come on. Might want to recheck the wiring behind the deck.

thanks I will check for that. Do you remember if it was a wire by itself or was it in a cluster of wires?

So which parts specifically are not lit up? The gauge cluster? Radio? HVAC?

The gauge cluster and radio are not lit up. Hvac is lit up and the traction control button on the left of the steering wheel is too

Two separate circuits off of the dimmer.
The radio and dash are LED and are controlled by one circuit, on any time the ignition is on, and the HVAC and pushbuttons are regular lamps and are on only with the parking lights.

Check for another fuse, but seen before where the dimmer was fried... not uncommon but usually when installing new head units, not when going back to stock.

I think this diagram is from the 2012, but it'll give you an idea....

Ive been out trying to figure this out and found nothing. The only thing i thought it could be is the relay labeled dim but i cant test it because the pins arent numbered. Any more suggestions before i rip the radio out and possibly find nothing?
