Ok, so I've been shopping for awhile now, and today was my first day going to a few dealers to look at options that were available. Wondering if anyone can give feedback as to what their experience has been.

Summary: Seems like dealers are willing to give a steeper discount on a Baja ($37k OTD) than they are a base model ($31k OTD)

    Details:
Plan has been to buy the base model and upgrade what I want. What I'm looking for:
    • Double-Cab 4x4 V6 Auto Short Bed
    • Silver Streak Mica
    • Black Fender Flares/Bumpers
    • Convenience Package
    • Towing Package

Most dealers are telling me you CANNOT get a CP package w/ Towing. Only way to get Towing package is to move up to SR5. Is this true? Also, some dealers are telling me the Baja comes in Red or Black only, some saying you can get whatever color you want. Which is true?

In order to upgrade my Tacoma the way I want, I'm thinking I'll need to budget for the following:
    Tires - $1000
    Wheels - $1000
    Suspension - $2000
    Accesories - $1000

So, with the base being around $30-$31k, and needing to spend around $5k, it seems like if I can get a Baja, for almost the same price, but have it fully under warranty, and being able to finance the upgrades at a great rate, rather than going the upgrade route.

What has everyone else's experience been, and any recommendations for dealers in the Dallas/Ft Worth area?

after your on this site for a while you'll end up taking off half the shit on the TX baja to upgrade it, then you'll be paying twice for one mod....

For 31k you should be able to get a loaded trd off road model. Most guys, myself included, would prefer the OR model and mod it ourselves. BUT, if warranty and being able to finance the extras is important to you, then go for the baja. Just take the graphics off :p

So, any recommended dealers in the DFW area anyone recommends?

What about for doing the upgrades? Any recommendations in the area (I'm actually up in Denton, TX)

you might need a little more than $1000 to do lockers on an sr5, but you wont need $1000 for wheels. suspension you def dont NEED $2000 for, unless you want to go all out, and most of that stuff you can do yourself with basic tools. if you buy a TRD off road and choose to mod that, you already have a locker, so that will free up $1000 out of your accessories budget to go towards something else. for wheels, id keep it OEM with a set of TRD wheels. whether they are the alloy 16', alloy 17's, or beadlock 16's, just dont get the queer chrome clad 18's. as far as suspension goes, there is a shitload of different combos you can go with, my set up is in my signature, and i am more than happy with it. only thing id add are eibach coils, but not in a rush to buy them either, and im under $1000 in my suspension. its all about what YOU want though, take ideas from this site, but you dont have to make your truck any other way than how you want it.

As a manager @ a dealership (not toyota) i can try to offer you another route. If your credit is good (700 + ) the majority of lenders will finance 120% of M.S.R.P. and still give you an amazingly low rate (3% x 72 months) if not better ( i.e. special financing program w/ toyota finance if available). If you can get sr5 for 31k otd, you could technically add the 120% ($6200 additional ) to the loan, have them cut you the check back, still be under lender requirements since you've already negotiated off of sticker, still take advantage of the good rates available and be @ a total loan amount of 37200. You can get a ton of top of the line upgrades for the 6200 that will blow a baja out of the water and you wouldn't have those ghey ass graphics on the side of your truck. Hope this helps and good luck with your purchase!!:D

...or really strap on a set, tell them to put the loan @ full price plus the 120% get roughly $9600 back, put your few mods on and bolt a supercharger on for good measure. If you're already comfy with the baja payment, my way w/ the supercharger is only another $40/month. Now that would be a badass Taco!!!!

    BTW- WELCOME TO TW!!!!!

Got quoted 35.4K on a four door baja with entune. Good Deal? Also I was hit in my 12 DCLB 4x4 sport 6 months ago in a collision and i paid 34.2K was I ripped off?

That sounds about right. I probably could have gotten it for 34k. Having said, that, I'm definitely glad I went the SR5+upgrade route. Got the exact upgrades I wanted for wheels/tires/suspension, and only spent around $33k total. So far have not missed not having locker, trd seats, etc.

That is cause you don't have the locker or seats MUAHAHA! Haha just messing with you:D You did pretty good for getting wheels, tires and a nice upgrade in shocks! My big objective for the future (when I am out of college) is a lift, new wheels/tires.

$30k-$31k for a base? I think thats pretty expensive. I paid a little less than $30k for my loaded TRD Offroad DC SB.

At the time, I didn't realize how easy it was to work on the suspension of this truck. Knowing now, I probably would have opted for an SR5 since I'm already considering a suspension and tire upgrade. Only reason I opted for a TRD model was because I thought at the time having Bilstein branded shocks would mean I would never need to adjust the suspension since it was probably done right from the start. And I sure was wrong.

Baja is good for... folks who don't care about further adjusting the suspension, and who want a decent tire immediately from the start.

$30-32k for a TRD, depending on the extras you get. There's a whole pricing thread.
