Same shit happened to me. I bought a parts truck from a guy and he wanted the keys for it back ( because he kept the doors from it) and he told me that when the package arrived it arrived in a palstic bag, opened with nothing in it

You can't expect a loose heavy object like a wrench or nuts and bolts get tossed around in a plastic bag and not get ripped open. Between getting tossed around in trucks and riding conveyor belts...thrown around by minimum wage idiots.

I work in logistics, shipping high value equipment world wide...it's all about the packaging.

I never understood the whole "insurance" thing. Its a modern day equivalent to paying the mob.

Its like "hey you paid us money to do our fucking jobs, but if you want to make sure we actually do it, it'll cost you more"

    :(

I bought a head unit from a member who packed it up nicely with bubble wrap, foam, and paper... USPS really torqued the box and the plastic faceplate got sheared off the thing. I guess I should be glad I received it broken instead of just an empty envelope?

    Hope you get your stuff!

    X2! ^^^
    Damaged gun cabinet kit>UPS

Cabelas, Johnson green wool pants: package resealed, and the nicest pair of hot pink stretch pants were inside. (could have happened anywhere along the line) UPS

E-Bay; Holley 3417 carb (rare); damaged in shipping by UPS.

I actually seem to do better through the USPS or FEDEX!

Eh, sorta. I've shipped fully wrapped stuff in boxes before and still had it punch through somehow and exit the packaging.

Shipping services basically treat packages like basketballs. It's impressive the damage they can do.

This. They're all pretty much the same. It's good luck/bad luck.

As a person who "parted his car out" in college... there is nothing worse than shipping through USPS. Virtually every single package I have ever shipped or received through USPS got mysteriously lost then found or otherwise delayed and packaging always arrived as if bear mauled it.

Perfect example... when I went to visit my folks a few months back... I stopped by Rutgers University and stocked up on $500 worth of coats, t-shirts etc. Since airplanes would charge me for extra bags... I boxed everything up and shipped it via usps using regular delivery option. 3 weeks later I finally received the box.... thankfully I put everything inside a bag inside a bag inside a bag inside a bag so when box ripped nothing got lost.

FedEx in my experience do a decent job shipping but bad job getting it there on time.

UPS by my book is THE best choice. Deliver=always on time. Package/Box safe=yes. Tracking=always. How they do it? I have no idea but in at least 15 years worth of shipping and receiving hundreds of packages... they have never failed to deliver their promise to me.

On to shipping stuff in general.
9/10 sellers always try and ship cheapest option for them... usually what happens is they guestimate shipping price and tell it to the buyer... they then get to post office and get bad news.... really bad news. They figure cheapest option to ship using bad options they have (ie shipping tools inside an envelope) and pow... package is dead on arrival.

Spend a few extra bucks and ship with UPS. I am wholeheartedly against shipping packages through usps.

Chances are no one stole your wrench. A heavy, thin metal object should not be packaged in a paper envelope that is meant for documents. Also, I'm pretty sure outside of very select minority, that wrench has zero to no value; certainly not worth the risk of losing a job over.
