I have a 07 sport 4x4 so I already have the LSD in the rear. I will never really do hardcore offroading, mostly light to medium trails. Lockers are just to expensive so I was wondering if it would be worth putting a LSD up front or just leave it? Let me hear your opinions. Thanks!

    No.

I don't know of anyone who makes an LSD for the 2nd gen front diff and if they did, you wouldn't want it. The truck will not handle well on dry pavement or in the snow.

If you want more affordable traction, but a Detriot or lunchbox locker in the rear. When you climb hills, you have a weight transfer to the rear end anyways. A front locker is most helpful for pulling the front end up steep/vertical rock faces.

i wouldn't consider anything but a tru-trac for the front as far as ls goes

would an auto locker affect driveability when not in 4x4? easy answer on my old-freewheeling truck, but i dont know where the add system disconnects. . . .

In 2wd, how would LSD in the front affect anything on dry pavement?

That was my thinking, I'm a little new to it and have a 2011-and 12 both have LSD but from what I can tell and read it is not a Mechanical, it is an open diff with traction control.
I keep needing to put the truck into 4x4 moving the trailer as the rear spins, even with the LSD light on, it will turn then the brakes hit and slow or try to stop.

Anyway I keep digging up the yard and did not have that problem with my old truck that had a Mech LSD or my other with a posi.

BTW will they fit and or work with the 2012 trucks.
Would like to have a true Posi or LSD. Not looking a locker.
I have run Eaton Posi in off road rigs in the past and love them. You can work over the clutch pack and they are great. Easy rebuild also.
I'm not off roading with this truck, just towing, camping and hunting.

TrueTrac won't mess you up when driving on pavement in 2x4 but will affect you anytime you're in 4x4 on a slippery surface and turning such as on snow. For an old beater like my truck that's one thing, and while highly debated a lot of guys do it just because its not as bad as a locker up front. BUT since your truck is newer AND you won't really need more traction for daily rock wall climbing ha you may want to just skip the hassle. Reviews are that people with one up front always say how well behaved it is but many more people speak of the dangers of that one time it will cause oversteer in the snow and send you into another car or off a ditch. Do some research on it and make your own call but id say not worth it from your description.

So is a detroit for the rear a lot better than the factory lsd? Is it worth the extra money?

There you are talking the difference between an LSD and a Locker. Most people will tell you to get a selectable in a Daily Driver that doesn't wheel pretty often. Yes, a locker is better in most scenarios. The "worth" depends on your needs. For someone who crawls Moab a few times a year a locker is definitely worth it over an LSD. For those of us who like to go have a little fun once in a while, meh, that depends on the person. I would do a little research on how each work and make your decision. That way, whatever you get, you know exactly what you got, how it works, and for what application you got it, rather than being able to say, "because the homies on TW said so." haha
