Good to hear things aren't as bad as they could have been.

    Speedy recovery!

Glad to hear all is OK with you and your son. Be sure NOT TO SIGN ANY PAPERS from the other insurance company.

My wife was recently hit and injured her leg (had to wear a boot for 4 months). The insurance company was great at paying her medical bills and wages because she was unable to work. But they also wanted to "meet us for lunch and offer us a decent check for our troubles". I said ABSOLUTELY NOT! Later talked to a lawyer who said the acceptance of that check removes their obligation to cover any additional medical bills if other health problems stem from this accident. They were very persistent about trying to get us to accept their check - saying things like "it's free money" and "no strings attached".

We have 2 years from the time of the accident where any issues related to this are covered by their insurance company. We are waiting the whole 2 years.

We are taking this a step further and trying to collect a settlement from the accident. We had a 3 month old baby at the time and my wife couldn't go up or down stairs or even carry the child for about 4 months. It was hell because I, along with a full time job, had to do everything.
Also, the bone that broke in her foot will never heal and usually comes back to haunt you later in life. We're on our own for medical bills at that point. I didn't want to do it at first but everyone who saw what we went through pushed us to do it.

Also, if your truck was that beat up, it may be totaled. Maybe you'll end up with an even newer 2009!

Thanks for all the kind words and support of my son and I. Healing is underway for myself and the tacoma. Only it will come back bigger and more bad as a result of this.

glad everyone is ok...it always sucks to see someone get hurt in an incident like this...

make sure that the frame is checked when you go to have the truck repaired...if the vehicle hit you hard enough to buckle the bed and ended up underneath your truck...id say theres a fair chance that your frame is bent...

Sorry to hear this. Could've been a lot worse I guess. Thank goodness you saw her coming in your mirror! Even though you got banged up a bit it sounds like you and your son are okay. They really need to do something about people talking on cell phones while driving. In PA I think they're trying to make it illegal for anyone under 18 to use a cell phone while driving, I think it should be any age unless you're using the hand free type of phone. Even that can distract the driver though. Hope it won't take too long before your truck is fixed.

These kind of stories are getting way too common. When my daughter got her license a few years ago I told her if I ever saw her driving while talking on her phone, I would take the car, the phone and the license. She turns 20 tomorrow and to this day she thankfully has not been in an accident. I'm glad you and your kid are ok. It's so scary when your child is put in danger, especially by other peoples carelessness. Kudos on holding him in the seat. Good job.
