Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Sometimes the only way to tell if it is used is by the smell and color. If it is dark and smells burnt, then it is used and bad. Then again, tranny and diff fluid is relatively cheap. It may be best just to cahnge it yourself. Just do not put a GL-5 based oil in the tranny.

I believe the general consensus is that the 3.4L is a non-interference engine.

Yeah just see if there is a button to the left of the steering wheel it should say rr diff lock. If there's a button then you have one. Someone mentioned you can tell by the sticker which ofcourse is 100% right except if it's been removed, so still see if you find a button. A locker is not just a toyota thing. A locker locks the rear wheels(in the case of the tacoma) together so that they spin at the same speed. This helps offroad because without one the wheel with the least resistance(the one spinning if you get stuck) will be the one receiving the power but a locker will send equal power to both wheels to help get unstuck. Also from what I hear it can be used to fishtail or powerslide a bit.

He is missing a leaf spring and I don't see the solenoid on the rear diff. Definitely just a base model.

Oh. I don't know that much about the 1st gens. That's pretty cool that you can tell just by those pics about the lack of a locker. Good eye.
