It has been awhile since I have purchased anything for my truck. The last thing was tires. Help me decide which is more practical, (gotta sell this to the House CSM) First, a front bumper I have my eye on 2 or 3 different ones. Practical because its beefy and offers more front protection. And it looks cool, (not practical for her). The other thing is a bed topper, keeps things out of the weather, a little more security (to keep the honest people honest) but is it worth the weight? I will do both, but which one first? Help out here, guys or gals.

Workman would get the topper, unless you use your bed for large items on the regular. It makes camping in the back very nice, especially when its raining or snowing. Keeping stuff dry on road trips is also a huge plus. Keeping thieves from stealing stuff out of the bed while on road trips is also a major bonus. Lock it up and go inside a store, or take an extended hike somewhere and you will feel confident nobody is messing with your gear.

Workman has the 6 foot bed, and camps in the back comfortably with one other person. The short bed would not work as well for camping. As far as weight, Workman still gets 21-23mpg on average with his topper, this is on a V6 4x4 using non ethanol fuel when He can find it.

The weight of the front bumper would reduce MPG WAY more than a topper, and would also require a beefier suspension to handle the weight hanging off the nose.
