I have 265/75/16s on a 2010 I just bought, the spare is the original 265/70/16, but the truck seems slightly underpowered compared to a 2009 Sport I test drove, all else the same. Are the Sports equipped with smaller tires?

I'll be replacing them soon- recommendations (or thread, I'm sure it's been discussed to death!) on tire size and type would be welcome.

    Differene in 75s to 70s won't make a difference w/ power.

You can do some searches, I think the biggest you can get away with w/out a lift is 275/75/16s. Maybe a 285. There are quite a few tire threads here.

It's possible the Sport I drove had smaller than 265/70/16s, making it more punchy... the stock tire size I found weren't very informative. Still compared to my old Comanche with the 2.5 and 31s the taco is a rager.

stock 16 inch wheels have either 245/75 or 265/70 tires. If yours are 265/75's then somebody put those on before you, they wouldn't have been stock. The diameter of the 75's is about an inch more than the 70's but I don't know how much, if any, that will affect performance feel.

Stock tires on a Sport are 265/65/17. Largest you'll fit without any lift or trimming are 265/70/17 or 265/75/16 if you go with a 16" wheel.
