Hello guys. I just picked up my ’13 4cly DC a few days agoand I'm very happy with it. However, yesterday,I just noticed a couple of odd noises coming from the engine and the transmission area, and I was wondering these are normal to Tacoma.

First noise comes when I first start the engine in themorning and warming it up. After a minuteor two of high idling, the engine RPM drops to about 750 RPM. But when the RPMdrops pass through about 1000 RPM, the engine makes a very short weird noise (almostlike a squeaking sound, something kicking in or activating). It only happens during warming up.

Also, whenever I start the truck, put the gear in drive, andstart driving, it makes one small grinding noise from the transmission or maybefrom the transfer case. It only happens once at the beginning and doesn’t happen until I turn off the engine and restart. If I keep the engine running and put it inthe park and back to drive, I don’t hear any noise.

I wonder if these are normal or if I need to take it back todealer.

    Any input would be appreciated!

I'm not sure what you are hearing, but when you first put it in gear after starting, the ABS will do a self-test, which sounds like a clicking noise down by brake pedal, this is normal noise. So far as the engine noise, IDK, these trucks are so complicated now days its hard to tell. The dealer should be able to listen and advise. Also, go to dealer and start another truck and see if it makes same noises.

    Thanks graywolf!
The noise is more like grinding, but I will check to see if it sounds like clicking next time. Also, good idea to go to the dealer and start up another Taco to see if it has the same engine noise! Will advise!
