From what I was reading it's even less restricted, meaning, a Canadian citizen can legally use deadly force before we can when protecting their home.

The laws on justifiable use of force in defence of life and property are scattered throughout the Criminal Code of Canada. The Conservatives tried to introduce reforms last February with a bill called the Citizen's Arrest and Self-Defence Act that it said were aimed to simplify and clarify Canadians' rights.

The Tories' minority status ensured the bill went nowhere but after winning a majority last spring, Prime Minister Stephen Harper promised to reintroduce the legislation.

...not sure what you mean by "before we can"...???

for example, in my state, OH, ...we have a castle doctrine law that puts the burden of prosecution on the state, in the event of a self defense act occuring in a dwelling (be it one's own residence, or temporary dwelling, or even by extension to another where you are legally allowed to be), and one's automobile...

Crickets? lol Sorry I haven't been online all night. Now your quoting the article I posted out of context? Let me provide the first part of the sentence you left out and explain.

"Only in the U.S. Canadians can fault themselves for not knowing enough about the U.S. in many areas, but its gun culture isn’t one of them."

In the article the author is saying that as a Canadian who has lived in the U.S., there is no avoiding our gun culture when you live here. He's not saying that Canadians understand U.S. gun culture at all, like you would imply, in fact he's implying the exact opposite. Your self serving quote goes hand in hand with the original quote from the article that I provided.

Anyway there are also demographics at play with U.S. crime rates; If Canada bordered Mexico, wasn't so cold, and had half the economy of the U.S. then Canada would also have much higher drug and gang violence rates as well IMO.

Not out of context at all , anymore that you quoting one passage earlier

And I read that as a seperate sentence .

Only in the US ( period ) otherwise that sentence kinda doesn't make sense , no ?

and how do you interperet this last passage then ?

If we knew enough about it, we might understand it. If we understood it, we might accept it. Then, it would be our problem, too.

In PA it is easier. No reason it shouldn't be either IMO! If you don't like it or it makes you feel unsafe, then stay north of the border.

I interpret that as if you understood it, you might accept it. But disagree with the author that guns themselves are a problem.

I feel safe knowing that everyone in my family and around me owns guns. I don't carry for self defense, and feel no need to at all. However I do own a couple hand guns, solely for plinking and target shooting because I enjoy shooting them for sport.

I grew up in a rural farming community, owned my first gun at age 10, and have had several guns passed down through family members. I now own 9 of them, and plan to increase that number after these emotional U.S. proposals blow over and prices come back down. Gun ownership, farming, hunting for food, and target shooting for sport, is in my family's heritage. It's something I would like to see passed on to future generations in my family as well.

Well it's getting late so I'm out, no use in wasting anymore time in here.

I intend to stay in Canada , I have no interest in living in the US .

Contrary to popular belief we have guns in Canada and my family ( wife's side ) are avid hunters .

Food for thought on the More Guns = Less Crime philosophy:

    http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2013/01/lead-crime-link-gasoline

I know Mother Jones is not well-regarded as a publication without bias, but this article tends to cut past the heart of that. It basically goes on to make the hypothesis that crime rates have fallen over the last few decades as we as a country have cleaned the lead out of our environment (gas, paint, etc.).

So, in the argument of whether Canada is safer or more dangerous because they have more or less guns per capita, there also begs the question of the lead contamination of the country. If Canada has less lead, does that contribute to lower violent crime rates? Vice-versa?
