Can't say that I watch much Olympics, but hasn't wrestling been part of it since it's inception? Seems like a funny one to drop.

well people don't watch it because its never televised. All they show is swimming/gymnastics/figure skating. You can't blame the olympic committee, its the networks that are killing the events.

The Olympics pretty much suck now that professional athletes dominate the scene. They might as well add football and use pro bowl players for it.

I am not a wrestling fan but it should stay in the Olympics because of its tradition and its a HUGE high school sport.

Here in USA biggest detriment to Olympics is how they are broadcasted. Take NBC for example. They broadcast it on 6 channels and it's not like they are showing 6 different things... ohh no... They are showing same exact thing on 3 channels (staggered with 1 hour difference), a rerun on 4th channel, a 2am recap on 5th channel and 6th channel entirely dedicated to something like basketball.

And then there is the internet coverage. Ohh what a joy... so much hype only to see that 90% of coverage shows american athletes only.

And then there is overglorification of athletes in some fields. Gymnastics, Swimming..., Gymnastics, gymnastics, swimming, swimming... did I mention gymnastics and swimming?

A lot of sports that are in Olympics do not deserve to be broadcast in uninterrupted coverage. Basketball, Soccer, Water Polo, Field Hockey... all those team sports. Beach voleyball is another one. Ohh what a joy to watch a 45 minute match while staring at a 45 year old well toned ass from a team that has won every gold medal and will win every gold medal even after they retire.

I remember watching olympics in russia growing up as a kid and it was always a huge treat. Every single sport was covered and we only had like 1 channel dedicated to the thing.

But you know what... olympics is also to blame. You take USA which brings 590 some athletes and UK which brings 500 some athletes. These 2 countries combined bring like 9 times more people than all other nations combined. Some nations bring like 1 person.

Olympics should not be about "hey you got money come over here". It should be about bringing fourth country's best athletes and setting a limit. Reason why america swept all gold medals in swimming is because like 90% of all swimmers were american. And it happens every olympics. It used to be might of 1 country against might of another country... not so much anymore.

Naturally with poor presenting by NBC, oversaturation of athletes, introduction of large person team sports and overall changing dynamics of today's society its all going down the drain folks. I can see it right now. Year 2090 olympics will feature a sport which gives out gold medals to countries for viewer ratings. Uganda will get a gold medal and they only have like 1 tv per 1000000 people.
