I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that these beds were so trusted that they offer a lifetime warranty. I was told, if you can break it, they'll fix it for free. Might want to call Toyota dealer and see what they say. If that doesn't work, call Toyota HQ and ask. I'm almost positive the beds are lifetime warranty

Toyota isnt so quick to replace the beds. Mine has been going thriugh a warranty check for a few months now and i havnt heard anything yet. Mine is cracked in pretty much same place (will add pics later) but is definatly not as sever as the op.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
the bed is not plastic, nor is it a simple fiberglass.

It is plastic with fibers in it, that is all. It melts fine, believe me :D

It looks like they used tie down straps that had hooks and actually put the hooks in between the rear of the cab and bed itself.

The owner I bought my truck from had a set of straps with hooks in the same spot when I showed up to look at the truck I bought. There is a lip back there that the hooks grab on to nicely but it is just not strong.

I bet the vending machine was up against the metal rail so they just hooked it behind the bed. You can see the gouge into the bed in the one picture and I am guessing it looks the same on the other side as well.

That section of bed was not intended for that type of force in an way. User error caused that for sure.

I would go with the metal plate, resin/epoxy glue and rivet repair as well.

Hope the price you paid reflected the damage.
