    Hi everyone,

    So I'm hitting 50k miles on my truck and finally doing a major and long-overdue tune-up on my truck including changing the spark pugs and changing all the fluids.

    I have a 2006, 4x4, automatic, V6. I do my own oil changes and have read the threads about other DIYs.

    I know I need 3 quarts of 75-90 for the rear diff along w/ LSD additive.

    How many quarts for the front diff? Also 75-90?

    I've also read that the transmission doesn't need a fluid change until 100k miles. True? Or should I also change it? If so, how many quarts and what type of oil?

    My last question is about synthetics. I already run Mobil 1 for the engine, but I've read that there is no good synthetic out there for LSD.

    What is your opinion on switching to full synthetics?

    as far as i know, DO NOT attempt your own transmission fluid, its not cheap and not easy, unless you have a machine that is made to do it, our tacomas have a SEALED transmission... take it to toyota and have them do it...

    i have the same year, same tranny, same engine, short bed, double cab

    Wow, I'm glad you confirmed my guess not to do the transmission! It seems so simple to just drain and refill.

    I'm going with 75-90 synthetic for the diffs and t-case.

    I've done my transmission once and my dad's twice. Maybe cause i've got a 99 and my dad has a 97 but it's not sealed, just a lot of bolts plus you need a new filter and gasket. That's pretty much it. And oil!

    What exactly does it mean when the transmission is sealed? And why would Toyota do it like that?

    It means that it is a sealed unit, with no dipstick and is not user servicable.

    hmm...





    What's the diff between the pre-runner and say x-runner 4.0L that requires 0.7quarts more oil in the engine? I don't understand that one bit... I've been running 5.5quarts on my pre-runner, which is dead center on the stick...

    Nothing special at the moment just a K&N air filter.
    My Truck must be the oddball then because its a 2005 Base model 5lug with a dipstick for the trans. and my rearend apparently is not supposed to have a fill plug but it does. Many of those sealed items are not sealed in my truck.:confused:

    All trucks have a servicable rear diff....You have the 4 speed auto, which is not a sealed tranny. :)
