I just installed 5100s set at 2.5 and I'm planning on buying this:

    285/70r17 BFG All-Terrain T/A KO load range E tires

    Pro-Comp 5001-7883 17x8 - 4.5 B/S wheels.

I've already removed the mud flaps and expecting maybe some minor trimming. This is my DD and plan to wheel it just a little. Its a 2006 4x4 dbl cab TRD offroad.

What ya think? Just thought I'd ask before I drop $1.7k

    thanks in advance,
    -Eric

Those look good but i would think you would want to go with a C or D range tire. E load range is a little over kill and would ride pretty rough.

I say if you plan on offroading go with a mud terrain. Unless you are talking about service roads. But anything else youll be glad you spent the few extra bucks and went with a M/T

i like eload range they have a stronger sidewall typically and i like a stiff ride but thats my preference ....like said before if your gonna wheel alot or be in mud/water/big rocks get a mud tire....km2's arent perfect but there great on the street and very good offroad there only downfall is ice and hard pack snow there alittle slick but still manageable ....i love mine and there a pleasure to drive on road and i have 30k+ on mine and still going...i will be getting an even more aggressive tire soon... :)

Thanks Guys for the quick responses.
I was also thinking about the KM2s but was a little concerned with wear since this is my DD. About how long do KM2s last?

x2. those bfg's will go anywhere aired down too. I just got a smittybuilt sb2780 for $83, and an arb tire deflator for $50. I can air down all 4 tires in about 4 minutes, and be aired back up within 10 mins. including unpacking and packing everything.

I used to run BFG ATs on my 91 toyota. Always felt that in mud and snow they plugged up instantly. They ride nice on dry dirt roads and pavement though.

    Rotated every 5Kish

Load range has absolutely NOTHING to do with sidewall strength. There's no point in using an E load range on a Tacoma.

I did 285/70/17s on a 3" ultimate lift kit from ToyTec. After 2 months I have finally trimmed and cut enough so that they do not rub at full flex and lock. If you do not want to chop your cab mounts or trim the wheel wells I would go 265

No, not at all, and there's not really such thing as 'ply' any more; it doesn't refer to the number of layers in sidewall construction - not when it comes to load rating - hearing a tire with a C load rating, equivalent to a '6 ply rating' doesn't mean it has more 'layers' in the sidewall construction versus a E load rating, equivalent to a '10 ply' rating. The 'ply' rating is an old method of describing relative strength of old bias ply tires. Load range describes a tire's ability to contain air pressure - that's it. Pretty much all LT tires are constructed of 2 or three polyester/rubber/fabric/steel/kevlar layers. Doesn't really make sense to get an E range tire for a Tacoma, unless that's all that's offered for whichever size you're looking at (as is the case for the BFG you're looking at). That being said, all the BFG A/T KO's have a 3 'ply' polyester construction.
