Synthetic oil

Synth doesn't cause leaks, it'll just fit in tighter spaces than conventional oil.

 

Im a Mobil 1 guy and have been for many years. The difference in starting a truck at -60F with Mobil 1 and regular oil is night and day. When I was working for the Army in Alaska I met a guy that worked for the Army Corp of Engineers and they have a Cold Regions Test Center in interior Alaska where they push things to the limit to make sure it works in the coldest temps imagineable. From trucks, to Tanks, Heavy Equipment, weapons, artillery etc. Lubricants is the heart and soul of chit working in the extreme cold. He told me that in the test they did with dozens of oils in engines to include aero grade hydraulic oils Mobil 1 was always a top competitor. Mobil 1 has always been easy to find and its price between Walmart and Sams is usually reasonable compared to stuff like Amsoil or RP that a guy has to hunt to find.

 

Same story here . . . I switched to Mobil 1 when I was stationed at Ft. Wainwright in Fairbanks, AK. A mechanic explained the cold-pour properties of synthetics, and we used nothing but synthetics in our aircraft, so I figured it was good enough for the Tacoma. I never had any starting issues whatsoever, even down to -51* F.

 

Pennzoil Ultra. Truck seems to like it.

-40 weather. It's approved for 2010 and up on the V6 engine in canada only for some reason.

 

been a mobil 1 guy for years, used to run elf in my r32 and motul in my CBR both good stuff as well, just made the switch to AMSOIL, many of my buddies love it, so switched it up and bought a case this weekend i will change my oil......

 

I tried Amsoil and didn't like it. I heard its a good oil buy my truck valvetrain noise was super loud I then search online and lots of guys complain about it with Amsoil. It's a great oil but for same reason the noise was annoying.

 

huh that is interesting, i wonder if anyone else is having or had this noise issue...

 

I search bob is the oil guy and many reported this issue about Amsoil making valvetrain louder. Nothing to worry about they said just annoying. Like I say Amsoil it's a great oil. Weird is that I switch back to Mobil 1 and noise was gone go figure.

 

BTW IM running Pennzoil Ultra and my truck is runs super smooth and quieter I really like this oil. No more Mobil 1 for me.

 

I'm going to need some pointers. First off I just bought 6quarts of Mobile1 5W-30 "advanced full synthetic" with a Fram Ultra oil filter from wallyworld. (Pretty sure I'm only supposed to put in 5.4-5.5quarts, right?) I live in Houston, Texas where there are no winters and its always warm and humid. Was 5W-30 the right choice? I hate to admit this, but I have 142,XXX miles and have been going to jiffy lube this whole time with conventional oil changes using mostly castrol or penzoil. I know once I switch over to synthetic there's no turning back...

 

As far as I know you can go back to conventional oil. But why change if conventional it's been working for you??

 

I use any semi synthetic on sale at auto zone. With a can of BG MOA

 

I am mainly making the switch simply because I feel like my truck needs (and deserves) better fluids than conventional. The mileage is pretty high and everybody I talk to tells me I should've made the switch a long time ago. True, conventional has worked for me so far... but synthetic is obviously a better fluid than conventional. That brings me to another topic-- Mobile 1 offers "high mileage" and "extended performance" synthetic blends but I decided to just go with their "advanced full synthetic" blend. Sure, having 142XXX miles would be considered high mileage to most, but does that mean I should be putting a "high mileage" blend in there now? What are the main differences between normal and high mileage blends? I think all these options have me somewhat mislead and confused

 

Rotella T6 synthetic. High zinc content and fairly cheap, I run it in my turbo car and the DD, going to switch once my Toyota care runs out

did a lab test in my ram 2500 diesel w emmisions components still attached at 10k miles with amsoil they said i should be able to get 2k more

Yeah I just bought Mobil1 Advanced Full Synthetic 5w30. I figured if it worked fine for everyone else it can't be that bad. I've had that oil in there for about 1000 miles now and it feels fine. I wish you lived in Texas so I could get the hookup! Paid around $45 for 6quarts with the filter

 

so i'm thinking to switching to mobil 1 5w30 but platinum? or a different mobil 1 product w/ a K&N wrench off oil filter

 

Most everyone one here recommends Redline MT-90; so, it got me checking out other Redline products
I'm currently running their 5w 30 engine oil, and I'm quite happy with it so far
...cost me 10 bucks a quart... but, still happy
