    As a prior BMW 3 series owner. It is a fun car when it is running right. parts to fix it is EXPENSIVE. I had to replace my transmission when it went out. $2000+ for a used one :eek:. Rear main seal: $900+ etc... I was glad when someone crashed into it and my insurance totaled it so I could get my taco :thumbsup:

    I broke the damn cup holder that slides out of the dash. That's $150... I take a more sturdy dump every morning than that thing. Not to mention it won't hold anything bigger than a juice box.

    Then at Christmas her power window assembly just broke, the feakin thing wasn't moving. The best part, she swore someone skipped past my brand new truck full of stuff to break into her spotless BMW because "it's a BMW" so I got the distinct honor of adding a motion light to the overhang near the wall, wiring it to its own circuit, and testing it in the pouring rain... God forbid someone go up and tap on it and the doors magically fly open..

    But no, I'm not bitter....

    Oh, and the asshat at the dealership told me it was probably too hard for me to change the brake pads.....

    BMW = Busted My Wallet.

    High pressure fuel pump failures and turbo seal failures = not fun. Avoid the N54 engine.

    My friend's 330ci blew an oil pump mid highway and oil-starved the engine. Threw a rod right through the block. It was a sad day...

    He now has a Hyundai Genesis Coupe 4banger turbo and that thing is NICEEEE

    I personally have heard too many 'one-off' stories of fundamental car parts breaking in a BMW from both people I know and people telling me stories of other BMW owners. Fuel injectors going bad at 50k miles, the little motors that level the HID lenses, premature water pump failures, etc. I see at least one newer-model BMW each week with a burnt-out HID bulb (which could also be the ballast). These are expensive OE parts to buy and replace, moreso if you can't do it yourself. Engine and body parts are much more expensive than they should be, most suspension wear-items are reasonably priced (ie. $100 per shock). Spend some time looking up prices on common replacement parts (front bumper cover, water pump), and you'll see what I mean. Also, in my opinion, BMW is at the leading edge of manufacturing more and more engine parts, that used to be metal, out of plastic especially with the newer models. They can brag about weight savings, but the real reason is manufacturing cost savings.

    The only positive thing I have heard is that, without a flatbed, they are near-impossible to steal. The electronics identifies that a theft is being attempted and basically bricks the car from starting without the key. Once the owner returns to the car and makes a phone call to BMW to verify he is the driver, a series of button presses (push this radio button, turn this AC knob, etc) unlocks the car to allow starting.

    I had a 07 335i. My recommendation: only buy new or CPO. I got rid of it after 2 years while it was still under warranty. These cars are only good under warranty, unless you have a nice fat wallet.

    Literally just coming from my 330ci to the Tacoma last Saturday. Loved the car but the maintenance and repairs was just making the car not worth the money. My step dad has a 07 335i and it's had plenty of issues especially with the fuel pump.

    Stay with the Tacoma or get a more reliable sport sedan that won't kill your income.

    I totally agree with everyone. I currently own a 2007 335i with about 68700 miles on it. I was the second owner. Bought it with 24000 miles and now looking to get rid of it. It is a CPO vehicle with 5 months left on the warranty. If i didnt have the CPO, i would be bald because they have replaced my fuel injectors, rear tranny seal, rotors and brake pads and some other little shit that i cant remember. It would have been expensive had i not had the CPO warranty. Great car though, it hauls ass, love the speed, definitely going to miss that.

    I wanted to trade my Tacoma for an E46 325IX but decided against it.

    I think id rather spend a little more and get a Lexus IS250.
