Need some major help with Icon UCA install

    While trying to install the icon UCA i ran into a major issue with them fitting with the washers that were included. Gold washer on outside, and thicker silver washer on inside. I can get one side in, but i am not getting enough clearance on the other side for the silver washer. Tried everything to get the washer to slip in with some effort (wd-40, and grease), but its gets in to a certain point than binds on bushing and starts digging into it. Even if i try just a basic fit of making sure the holes line up with the silver washers one side will fit, but the other will hit. Have not attempted driver side yet, only passenger.

    My manual shows a picture of the silver washer on the inside, and gold on outside.

    if anyone can give me some advice i will really appreciate it.

    I think I remember someone saying use a flathead to pry it open just a hair more and the washers will slip right in...

    PS it looks like from the picture your UCA bolt snapped in half behind the shock. Just sayin' you might want to check that out :spy:

    I just installed Light Racing and had this same issue on my passenger side as well. The Driver side was no issue.

    I put a flat head screwdriver between UCA bushing and the shockmount bolt location. Use some vice grips attached to the screwdriver handle and rotate the screwdriver so that the blade turns to increase the gap. With you other hand push in the washer. Once you get it started use a hammer and maybe a punch to center it.

    I got it pried open to get the washer to slide in, but when i try hammering it in it gets to a certain point then it starts binding on the bushing and starts digging into it. I am already using a 12" big flat, but maybe i need more leverage on binding it open

    Ive been through this before. Have a beer. Relax. Takeba solid 10 minute break to clear your mind. Then do what the above posters have mentioned and pry away and hit the washer in with a hammer. Also, skip the wd40 and just use grease.
    For the driver's side remove the battery completely, incase you werent planning on it. It will help with the bolt removal greatly.

    Yea, you should be able to pry it open enough to slide the washer right in and then let it go and you'll be good to go...

    going to give it another shot tomorrow. I guess it is possible since i am not the only one that had the issue. Was starting to think they sent me the wrong washers.

    Update:
    Got them in finally. I ended up using my pry bar to pry it open + some extra grease on the washer got it to slip in and center the bushing with the washer.

    What are you guys using to grease it? As far as i know regular grease deteriorates the rubber. I used that white clear looking grease that usually comes with bushing. Also known as plumbers grease.

    Looks good, I had basically the same issue - Drivers side UCA went in fine and passenger took some tough effort to get on and then line the bolt through. I think I used some super lube grease and installed all over the bushings inside and out. Of course this made getting that passenger side UCA on more of a pain being slippery. Looks like you got it worked out the same in the end as well.

    Getting the bolt through was a real pain. I ended up finding a suspension bolt i had from a previous car that wasn't that long and stuck it through the other end to get it lined up.

    The extra grease did make it very slippery. I ended up wiping off all the grease from the washer and putting it just on the actual bushing and that helped out with the extra slippery washer.
