I am now a proud owner of a (new to me) 08 Tacoma TRD Sport. I've always admired the looks of the 2nd Gen Tacomas, but wasn't sure I was quite ready to have one as my daily driver. Well, with the transmission failing on my 04 Maxima and my trusty, but rusty, '88 Hilux barely road legal, I felt the time was right to make a move. Since I wasn't ready to buy new, I decided to look for a deal on a used one. I found out that there aren't really many "deals" on Tacomas since their resale is so ridiculously high, but I still managed to get a couple of grand under KBB retail. I'm still amazed that I bought a vehicle that just rolled over 100K in miles...had it been anything but a Tacoma, I would have never even considered it. I'm still a little nervous about that, but it seems to drive like it's almost new, so I'm hoping I get another 100K out of it. I've always heard the stories about the longevity of these trucks. My Hilux is fairly low mileage (150K) for it's age, runs like a top, but it's just in sore need of a frame off restoration, something I don't have the time or talent to do, so it will likely get sold to, hopefully, someone who would want to put the time into it.

I've always found forums like TW to be a really great resource for tackling problems with my vehicles or just to BS with other owners about the things we love and hate about our vehicle. I just joined TW today and already I've found out that the little shudder upon takeoff is likely a "normal" quirk with Tacos, I've learned how to fix my faulty overheard compass/temp display (gonna try to tackle that this weekend), and I've even found other owners who have had a similar problem with the fuel door dragging when opening. Great stuff. I think I'm going to really love this truck. The Speedway Metallic Blue paint job is, by far, the brightest of any vehicle I've owned. My neighbors are complaining that they need sunglasses just to look at it! At first, I really thought that I was going to miss all the bells and whistles that my Maxima had (and the Taco does not), but I really don't. Both are fun to drive, just a different kind of fun (wouldn't recommend taking the Maxima off the blacktop...ever).

Looking forward to talking to other Tacoma folks on this forum.
