iPad fanboy here. Owned 2 and it's probably the best tablet IMO. If you can afford it I would recommend it, but there is a lot of cheaper alternatives that give a lot of bang-per-buck ratio :) Such as the Chromebook which is $250

i bought the 32gb Nexus7 the day it came out.
    have been happy so far.

just have to get used to it and find a use for it.
it's kind of an "extra toy" right now.

i do find my self using it alot for comics with comixology.

edti: with the addition of swipe typing with Android 3.2, it is so much better to type on this style of device.

Had an iPad. Hated it after the first few weeks. :frusty: :smash:

I sold it and used part of the money to get a Galaxy Tab 2 (7 inch). Well worth the money.:dancingbacon:

The ASUS Transformer Prime is also a great way to go.

I have a Nexus 7 and love it. I barely touch my laptop now however there are things that will always need a actual computer for which I go to my iMac or laptop for. I am a hardcore mac user but the iPad's size was just too big for me and the new iPad mini was unimpressive to me -- I liked the 8" screen but was disappointed with the much higher price, no GPS and lower res screen. Also I'm a big fan of the slide to type keyboard on the android.

Android though is not perfect. If you decide to go with one and use an email other than gmail, get the "Aqua mail app". The stock android app absolutely sucks and can't compare to the stock email app on the ipad. It drove me nuts for days and has all kinds of problems with imap servers. Also some apps (especially games like Angrybirds and a few others), will only allow you to use the tablet in one landscape orientation and unlike the ipad and will not flip if you hold it "upside down," which makes using it with some cases that act as a stand irritating.

Also although it offers a lot of customizability which is nice, especially for a tablet, I find it doesn't feel as refined of an OS as iOS. All kinds of little quirks show up with apps crashing, the device freezing - Skype being one of them which needed me to download another app to use as a "driver" for the camera and then glitches like it getting stuck on a call. Also for Android although there are a lot already, the tablet app selection is somewhat limited. Additionally with the Nexus 7 I have found various tablet apps that are incompatible and can't be installed on my device without rooting it. Examples: Wacom's Bamboo Paper and Bank of America's tablet app.

It really depends what you want do on a laptop/tablet. If its just browsing and some email it will cover your needs, it even works with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (and some ever come with them -- check out the ASUS transformer pad). However if you deal with lots of multi window stuff, emailing lots of links or attachments, editing and commenting documents, etc, using the tablet very quickly becomes a burden and annoyance to use and you would be much better served by an actual laptop.

Lastly on the nexus 7 at least (kindle fire HD has HDMI out), there is no way to output to a secondary display or a TV if you want unless you have a googleTV, and that only covers streaming video and viewing images. If you ever use multi display setups or need to do presentations, get a laptop.

Ipad 2 all day. No problems...EVER! I use it all day everyday. There are always things that can't be done on a tablet but its getting to be less and less

So did you jump the gun or wait for the windows 8 stuff?

I have a motorola xoom and have found it to mostly useless for me. Got it for my business. Didn't really research it much and found out later I could not run any business software. Oh well my stupid.

And apple? Don't get me started. I hate apple and i am glad steve died.

I think with the new windows 8 tablets that have the full windows would be the way to go.

I have the Vizio 8" tablet. works well, but when I get on TW, pics dont work, so I mainly use for reading or when I travel I watch movies. I like that I can add a 32gb mem stick.

FX retros, Blazer fog-light retro, JVC KW-NT30HD head unit, Pioneer 6X9's in front doors, Pioneer 6.5's in rear doors, two Pioneer 12" subs in sealed boxes, Sony X-Plod amp, Hidden Hitch trailer hitch, EGR window visors, two PIAA low-tone horns, Westin light bar with two 100-watt KC low profile driving lights.
Steer clear of the iPad, huge waste of money. The ASUS Transformer Prime is not too bad at all, recommended. The Nexus 7 does not have an SD card slot, another one to avoid.

I'm happy with my iPad mini, it's way more convenient that the regular iPad. My wife has the same mini as me but she got a case that has a Bluetooth key board and she does all her school work on it. The only thing that kinda lacks for even more usability IMO is a USB, but with sites like drop box it's not to much of an issue.

IPAD 2nd gen version here. is it a sub for a decent laptop, no. and while i can not speak for other tablets, this particular ipad is simply astounding. and although flash media is supposedly "old", apple really should support it
