Acura MDX Brakes

I know this is not the acura forum but since many of you are very knowledgable about cars / trucks I thought I would ask....

My wife has a 2005 acura MDX and she goes through brakes every 20K-25K miles. My tacoma goes 60K between new pads. Is the wear on the MDX brakes normal? Someone told me that most Acuras eat brakes pretty quickly.

 

Most of the Hondas that I have owned have had soft brake pads which tend to wear out faster. The upside is that they are easy to change, relatively inexpensive, and rarely cause rotor warpage. My wifes 2007 Civic seems to have a harder compound. The braking is much better than my 2002 Accord was, and the pads seem to be lasting longer. I don't know if this helps, because an Acura MDX is much heavier than an Accord or Civic. You may want to try an aftermarket pad and see if you get more mileage out of those.

 

My best friend and his brother own a Integra and Accord, and they go through brakes like no other.

 

I now drive a Honda Pilot ever since I sold my Taco. The Pilot/MDX are pretty heavy vehicles so pads will tend to wear faster, but 20-25K is awfully quick though.

 

My husband has an 06 MDX with about 20k miles. He's been noticing some pulsation in his brakes. I can't remember if he talked to the dealership about it or not. The warrantee on the MDX's (atleast,our warrantee) is like 6 years 75K miles. Generally brakes aren't covered but we might try and request getting them turned. Our dealership has been extremely good to us -free inspections, and virtually free maintenance (we pay for parts only).

But yeah,the MDX brakes are extremely good & touchy. It's a no wonder they wear out quickly.They work too good.

Compared to the tacoma brakes - when I drive his MDX, my head just about goes through the windshield when I step on the brakes.
