I just bought a used A.R.E Z series cap for my 2010 TRD sport. Has anyone wired the brake light in their truck?

I just did mine, the cap should have a quick connect and some dangling wires, I pulled the tail light and used some tee splices followed by silicone and black taped them up, I also ran a wire to the cap that was hot all the time so I could use the cap light anytime, usally you splice the parking lamps for power but to use the cap light you have to have the parking lights on , this method has also caused me to have to boost the truck several times in the morning because I forgot to turn them off?

    Yup.
Not hard to do since the turn signals are separate from the brake light and taillight.

Used to be a pain on domestic trucks that combined the turn signal with the taillight.

That's what test lights are for.

Nah, that's making it too easy. First you have to wire it up wrong, then hack it all out, then realize you cut out too much, then discover you don't have any more splices or primary wire laying around, then hope you don't get pulled over while driving to NAPA with no lights, and then do it right.

And do it all with orange wire nuts.

Just wired it up yesterday. Thanks for the instructions, it works great. The only thing I did wrong was reverse the two pin quick connect. We figured it out quickly and fixed it without having to drive to NAPA and get pulled over. Pictures to follow once I figure out how.

Remove two 10mm bolts to remove taillight assembly. Pull straight rearward to reomve taillight. then make following connections

    Green/red = brake light
green (right next to it) - works when parking lightsare on = dome light wire (you would have to go to battery for dome light on anytime make sure you use a fuse within a foot of the battery)
    white/black = ground

There is a gap between the bedcaps and the bed (rear metal upright) large enough for 3 wires to fit. You can fish them out from inside the tailght.

For quick disconnect capabilities you will always have a connector there (so it will as clean as your imagination its just wires) . If you don't have a "quick disconnect just get a 4flat trailor harness loop and use it (they come in 48'' lengths).

    I hope this helped.

 For the pics, you can upload them into your album then copy the link below each pic into your post. It's pretty easy to figure it all out from your 'Control Panel'.
