    okay, so long story short.
me and some buddies decided to load up our dirtbikes and take them to school, (lock them up) and leave from school to ride. 4 bikes total.

so we all loaded up last night, chained and locked the bikes to the beds of our trucks, and took off to school. we blocked ourselves in so nobody could just pull them right off the back, but it didn't work apparently.

so i'm taking my exam, get calls on my cell from buddies in the principals office, so i get word that bikes are gone and haul ass. by this time, cops are everywhere, i'm signing paperwork and the whole nine yards.

my ordeal is,,,,, they couldn't lift mine out of my truck because of how i parked. they got my buddies bike, which was chained also, because it was smaller. they picked it up right over the side, gone. so he goes to another school, and i had to call him and say, "yo, your bike got stolen out of my truck."

so i feel guilty. i feel like since he wasn't at the school, its my responsibility. any opinions?

That is terrible but this is not your fault, you did the best you could in trying to prevent a theft.

We have to do the same thing with our snowmobiles but if someone stole my sled in anothers trailer then I would not blame them. That is what my insurance is for.

All you can do is lock em up best you can, but if thieves want something, they are low lifes who will go to any lengths sometimes.
Be thankful they didn't steal your whole darn truck

Sorry that happened. :( I hope tomorrow is a better day for you and your friend and they catch the suckers!

Home owners insurance may cover it if the truck insurance doesn't.

yeah, i guess it could have been worse. the truck could have been gone!

sad thing is, my school has the tape with the car and the three guys, but (1) its too blurry to see exactly who it is and (2) the cops aren't being much of a help anyways.

Sorry this happened. We have a # of quads and have looked into this...our home owners insurance and our vehicle insurance, even our insurance on the toyhauler will not cover ATVs (of course it varies by location and company). A lot of insurance companies are now offering ATV insurance for these reasons. Just something to look into for the future and the rest of your toys. I agree you are not responsible since your friend knew the risk and you took preventative measures.

Sorry to hear that man. Pretty crappy when that happens man. People don't have respect anymore. It's kinda sad.

I hardly ever take my mountain bike with me cause of this reason. I just bought two locking cables last night to try to prevent this.

The only way I would blame you is if you borrowed my bike and didn't use reasonable measures to protect it from theft.

Obviously you were all aware of the risks involved since you locked them up

So in this case would the comprehensive coverage on your truck cover the stolen bike or the bikes insurance if any?

no insurance would cover it at all, pretty rediculous.

doubt any of the news would have spread to yall, but a cop investigating got shot in the face last night. they caught the dirtbike today and later caught the guy in a hotel across the river
