Just had to bend the two top ears that the top bolts run through. The radio had to low of a angle so bending them in raised the deck.

I'm sure there's some cheap China made stuff on eBay around that price, but don't expect any good quality from it...

ok cool. i may try and do the same. I don’t like those plastic mounts at all. and think thats why it’s moving around some when off road.

I'd be more concerned about the plastic mounts for a completely different reason. God forbid a thief breaks into the truck and goes to rip a $600 radio out, the only thing holding it in are a couple plastic brackets that could snap right off and away they go with the radio under their arm. They're going to have a little harder time with the bolted in metal ones. Not saying metal brackets are going to stop them, but unless they're carrying a 10mm socket and a ratchet and extension with them, it's definitely going to slow them down.

I am thinking about replacing the stock 10mm bolts with something different. Does anyone know what size the threads are on the stock ones?

Anybody able to keep their steering wheel bluetooth controls functional with a new head unit or is that not possible? Is it possible to run the backup camera to the new headunit as well instead of viewing through the rearview mirror?

Yes and Yes. just have to get a interface adapter for the wheel controls and get a single RCA cable to run and tie into the camera feed wires above the parking brake pedal. You also have to run the reverse wire from the new head unit to the reverse wire next to the camera feed wires. Just search backup camera wires in the search. You can get the adapter from crutchfield and many other places.

I asked both those questions to the chat thing on crutchfield yesterday and they said no and no! I figured you could. Is there some sort of specific name for the interface adapter your talking about for the Bluetooth?

I assume when you say bluetooth you mean the right side wheel controls for the bluetooth pickup, hangup, voice? Here is the link. The device has a learning mode so it will work with all cars and trucks. As for the camera, its a matter of running the wire and tying into the camera feed. You will have to solder the wires because they carry video. You want a good connection to them. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120ASWC/Axxess-ASWC.html

Yea the answer and hangup on the right side of the steering wheel. Thanks for posting the links. The crutchfield one according to this Installation Note: This adapter will not retain your vehicle's factory Bluetooth functionality. Please identify your vehicle or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to see if the ASWC adapter is compatible with your vehicle.

I knew that I would need that part and that it would work with the volume and channel control but I didnt' think it would work with the bluetooth buttons. I was trying to see if anyone has been able to maintain use of those controls on the steering wheel, or are you telling me you did buy getting that part? Thanks

Again, The one i got has a learning mode. In learning mode you press the buttons on the wheel and then tell it what it is supposed to do. the booklet that comes with it has a whole list of things you can program to each button, volume, track up/down, mute, call on/off ext.. basically each button has a resistor that tells the radio based on what resistance to do. You have to tell the adapter what each resistance is supposed to do and the adapter tells the radio what you programmed it to do.
crutchfield said that when i was looking at them for mine because they haven't been tested on the 2012 models. i'm assuming they haven't updated the website yet for the device. Metra said no problem when i called them..

This is the exact one i bought. Works like a charm in my 2012.

Thanks man! One more question, my truck has a USB plug in right above the cupholders right below the ac controls. How do I keep that functional? I'm sure if I pulled the factory radio out I would see how its hooked up and answer my own question but I haven't done that yet. Does the wire from that USB run into the back of the radio or is it plugged into the radio? If its plugged in I could just buy a radio with a usb plug in the back of it I'm assuming, if its not a plug in then i'm not sure. After I figure this out then I have to decide which headunit to get.:D

There isn't a usb plug on the factory radio. the wires run from that panel Aux in and USB and plug into a square plug on the factory radio. You would have to pull the usb panel out and figure out which wires are power and data for the usb port. Then cut a usb cable and solder the cable to the panel wires for usb. If i were you i would just run a usb cable that comes with most new radios next to the drivers seat or in the storage bin. I would recommend the Pioneer AVH-P8400. I have the P4400 and love it.
you have RCA out for front, rear, sub, Rear view camera in, AUX in, Navigation pin if you get the nav box, Mic in for the bluetooth mic that comes with the radio, Wired remote in, Sat radio blue plug, 2 USB, High level out, RCA video and audio in and 1 video out for rear screens.

Ok, I saw another post where a guy cut that wire and soldered something to keep that port functional. I'll ask him about it and see what he did. That AVH-P8400 is a little pricey for me! I was thinking more like the AVH-X2500BT but i've got to do a little more reasearch to make sure i'm getting what I need and want before I buy something. I'm piecing my stuff together, got a component set, sub and box, and amp at the house. Planning to do it all at once when I start.

Spend the extra $100 on a 7 inch unit with good reviews. Don't kick yourself later. I was in the same spot as you and just said heck with it, going all out...

I was a little intimidated before I first started this project, but after reading up on some forums and watching some YouTube videos, it really didnt seem all that hard.

It looks pretty good finished. I did run into one problem during the installation on this tho. The Schoshe dash kit is too small for this Head unit. Sony XAV-601BT. What i had to do is take the external metal skin off from around the unit in order for it to fit. And had to secure it from behind. Just makes it impossible for quick install and removal as designed by Sony. Unit works great, and sounds even better. 3x better than stock HU.

After my last car pontiac G6 GTP and couldn't replace the radio due to integrated car functions. I loved the fact you can just swap out tacoma radios.
