ticking noise in a 2010

i just got the truck about a month ago and when its running i hear a ticking. it sounds like maybe a lifter. the truck only has 22,000 miles on it. is this something noraml ?

Yep. It's not a quiet engine. Solid lifters, not hydraulic.

 

All us 2nd gens have it.

 

Normal. Any engines with solid lifters or direct rocker arm to valve contact will have a tick noise. Honda engines also have a very pronounced tick noise for the same reason. A hydraulic lifter will decrease noise but at the expense of decreased power due to power being absorbed into the lifter. You will also hear the term valve lash adjustment that has to do with valve clearance to rocker arm. Occasionally the rocker arms need adjustment to lessen the amount if space between the arm and the valve so there is less space between them. This is a rare adjustment.

 

Tick, tick, tick, tick. Ya their just loud engines, my older 84 and 85 4 bangers did the same thing just the way it is. Least you know it's running.
